Default Solomons Island

I am looking to do some fishing in this area this year. I have been in Maryland for about 1yr 1/2 was not able to do much last year but I will this year. But I would like to know any good locations around this area and what are they catching during spring, summer, months. Someone told me about Solomons but would like to know more info.
So please if anyone has fished this area or knows hope you don't mind sharing info.
Thanks

Springtime is big time trophy rockfish season at Solomons. Season starts April 21 and the big stripers should be around until early May. Sometimes well into May depending on the weather and water temps. Kind of late start to the opening day this year. No real hot spots for trophy fishing. The fish are caught trolling the main stem of the bay out around the shipping channel with large bucktails, paracutes, umbrella rigs.

Summer fish are smaller stripers, blues, croakers, and maybe an occasional seatrout or flounder.

I fish out of Chesapeake Beach, about 20 miles north of Solomons. I don't know the local hotspots for bottom fishing and chumming down there.

I keep my boat in Flag Harbor (St Leonard) about 10 miles north of Solomons. The Maryland DNR site has pretty good reports for the middle and lower bay. Chinese Muds just out of solomons is OK, also around the bridge for perch. The first line of crab pots out in the bay for croaker and the Gas Docks north of solomons for summer striper were pretty good last year. Across the bay to the little Choptank is OK also for blues, stripers, etc.

I thought that the gas docks are "off limits". Can you get in close?

you have to stay outside the buoys but almost every day we were out last summer we found some birds working and schoolie blues and stripers between the docks and the power plant.

The spanish Mackeral arrive in the Solomons area mid to late August as well... very fun fishing... Cedar Point Rips just outside the mouth of the Pax is a great place to cast for schoolie rock, blues and macs as well as trolling.... Just get out there and you'll see a pattern from other anglers, follow suit and listen to ch. 68.... offer what you're doing and some will give good info back.... It's a blast out there....... Be on the lookout for the planer boards that everyone pulls and keep your distance.... On crowded days I like to stay away from the fleet, there's plenty of room for everyone... enjoy.

Everyone is giving great advice. I have fished a trailered boat out of there for years. If you trailer your boat please keep in mind that they have had some thefts of trailers and parts of trailers at the public boat ramp under the bridge. If you want to have a ball go out at night with light tackle and the schoolie rock will break all night long under the lights of the navy pier just to the right of the boat ramp. Some great croaker fishing just up around the corner from the pier. Mouth of the river by the old school house is great around sundown. Good Luck secure your trailer
