Random Quote: Old fishermen never die, you just smell that way...
Is there a reason Yellowfin doesn't offer a step down center console without the wiring exposed? NOT a bash on Yellowfin and yes the wiring is perfect, so please I don't want anyone being defensive, I'm just wondering. Everything is laid out perfect and it sure makes it easier to access everything, but just wondering why not a step down for extra room.
You are in the minority of which is why no step down, most fisherman want a flush deck to easily access the front of the boat. The cater to mostly hard core fishermen, not pleasure boaters, who fish twice a year.
Fishcop, I didn't mean a step up bow, I meant stepping down into the center console like a Fountain. A fountain is still a flush deck, but they have a side door center console that offers a ton of storage. I'm not comparing a Fountain to a Yellowfin, just using them as an example. Are you saying to easily access items in the center console it's easier for it be be flush? Oh, and so there's no confusion I'm all about hardcore fishing and run charters and I have an Engine in my center console not a head. Just wondering is all.
Has anyone looked carefully at the pic of the bilge --- on the 29 footer 3.jpg ? I know everyone here loves YF, butI remember last year there was an absolute attack on the Invincible because their show boat had some serious oxidation in the bilge --- for a fairly new boat. I remember this because the discussion was articulate and there was mention of using different metals and subquality metals. I'm not saying that YF is using subquality metal - I'm saying thatusing a stainless Ball Valve that is connected to Brass pipe fittings -- does that not cause anodization? I'm no expert and I am not raining on the parade, but it looked odd to me the blue ball valve (stainless) and the brass fittings? By the way --- I absolutely love YF -- it will be my next boat!
So don't bash me, just answer my possibly very dumb question.......
The fuel tanks are there...that is how they are moving thew weight forward to balance the gigantic motors.....
Also, most fisherman do NOT want a stepdown, I know I don't. That is why there are so many manufacturers, a little something for everyone.
As far as wiring, why not leave it exposed, easier to get at for maintenance etc.... It isn't like you are going to be riding in there.....
YF is a custom boat, I am CONFIDENT if you wanted it covered, Wylie would find a way to cover it up and that it would look good also....if you have the $$$ to make it happen

First, yes you are correct
Second, are those valves stainless or chrome over brass
Third, There is alot of pipe dope and teflon tape in the pics, that will insulate the 2 metal and not allow galvanic corrosion to happen, or at least severly limit its ability to happen.

Sorry Im a retard, I too have wondered why they have such small consoles, and I would suspect that they would probably change that on some of their models in the future. Lord knows when your looking at a boat with the wife its alot easier of a sell with the "step down" into the console even if you never use the head in there. Not to mention all the extra storage. Sorry for the misunderstanding
If my wife goes fishing, she can hang it over the side like the rest of us......I sure as hell wouldn't waste all that space with a freaking head.... At the very best, she gets a 5 gallon bucket and a large towel.
I know that is probably mean and somewhat demeaning, but some women are more "outdoorsy than others" Mine gets hella seasick also, so rarely goes past the jetties, she realizes what boat is better for fishing and doesn't even ask about compromises. YMMV

Fish dont they also have saddle tanks? I know that having the fuel there on trip engine application is probably useful, but on a twin engin app, do you think it would make much of a difference in the way the boat rides? Just wondering, as I do know a few people who bought a diff boat just for that reason, and I know YF doesnt care, but, being a custom builder if a potential buyer wanted say a twin engine 34, and that type of set up for the console is that something they could do? What size YF do u have?

Yeah except when your rafted up at the sand bar with tenty other boats, and the police are watching its kind of hard to hang it over the side, but trust me im with you. I have one of those nice five gallon bucket toilet seats and every body is responsible for there own disposall.

From a guys who has owned 3 36's in 2 years
I have been asked about the differences in the new style 36 and the usability and performance changes. Here goes:
From a build standpoint the fuel tanks are now moved a good distance farther forward in the hull. The tanks are also different capacity with the center tank being 334 gallons and the saddle tanks being 89 gallons each. YF has plumbed the tanks so that the center motor always feeds off the center tank and the outer motors can feed from either its respective saddle tank or the center tank as well. Wylie says to run each motor on its own tank until the saddles run dry then all three on the center. The nice thing is that I can fill the center tank for inside fishing knowing I have plenty of fuel. The tanks are also aluminum so as to avoid any ethanol related issues.
Also, I do not currently own a YF, I am trying to research much like you and have been looking. There is a ton of info, I have friends with a 34, 36 and 31.
When it some to I want XXX, I will always defer to call Richard or Wylie, they are ultimately the ones who can Yes or No to what they can do for a customer. Some things I know have been done in the past and therefore should theoritically be done again.

That is easy, my wife nor I drink and if we want to go to the beach, we go out in front of the house. Guess I am just lucky

Why would anyone ......ever...ever put chrome over brass valves in the bilge? Second - "pipe dope" maybe if your smoking it....still don't see it. But I guess I know what to tell Wiley what I don't want!
correct me if i am wrong but isnt the simrad boat with trip 350v's the one that the black Invincible (trip 350v's) blew past at the start of the ska in key west?

Yes, they were loaded down for fishing and not raceing. There is a whole other thread about this on just about every other forum. Im not going to get in to it here and ruin this one.

I agree with you fishcop if I am understanding you correctly, a stepdown in teh console would be nice. Even if you had a portable head in there. I know alot of guys that have chosen different boat because the wife wanted a place to pee. Yes the wife is only on the boat 1% of the time but when it come to that kind of money you got to have her on board at least alittle or you will never hear the end of it.
The fact that these boats are custom is very nice. I really like the 42 but have a series of items I would change if I ordered one new. Hopefully one day I will be in the position to design my own.
This is an honest question - not being sarcastic at all; what is it about YF that everyone loves? Is it strictly marketing or is there real value in the product? I'm very curious as to what the love-affair is all about.

No real love. Just a bunch of paid Yellowfin advertisers on THT!
