Random Quote: Offshore fishing, like yacht racing, is like standing in a cold shower trying ignite thousand dollar bills.
I like the 284, but the switches sure are in a weird location?
I had the 284 - it is a very nice boat and I was quite pleased with it. Mine was a 2006. One of the things I disliked was where the switches were. I used to bang them with my knees all the time while running the boat. One trip, I killed a load of bait, by knocking the switch to the live well off. If we kept the boat I was going to have an acrylic shield made for them. Not sure if they are in the same spot now. The in-water pic above is the 264 - they are in a strange spot, but at least they are recessed - better than where they were on the 284
Iterseting aboput the price on the 264 walkaround. I was at the Cleveland boat show and Grady white was selling (unloading rather) their 25' walkaround for $88,000. The Mako is nice, but is it comparable to a Grady? I don't know that much about the Mako but it would seem you could chizel the dealer down even more.
I crawled around the 234ex at BPS in Ashland. I couldn't get almost any hatch I opened to close. Fishboxes in the floor weren't quite flush. Only 1 jump seat (so only seating for 3 under the hard top.)
Some other things I really liked, though.

Can't speak for newer model makos. Especially after being tracker owned. But I used to have a 78 21' CC. It was an awesome boat. A very dry and smooth ride. My brother now has a 26' cc early 90's model. I think the quality held over into his model, but the new boats just feel so much cheaper.
Have a unique Ultimate 2002 282 For sale in Sarasota, absolutely awsome! its my 4th Mako and 2nd 282.
I also have it from a very knowledgable Pro that the 284 ride is a home run for Mako.! I hope to own one soon.

My 284 had an interesting feature. The head normally had about a half an inch of water on the floor. I told the factory engineers they need to raise the floor an inch or two.
man that price ure has gone up in 4 years, i was looking hard at the 284 in 2004/05, had a BPS and a local shops quote on one with decent options and twin 225optis for right at 76k, hard to believe theyre going for 112 now (even with Verados)
New 21 foot boat is 39k.. Prices have gone up big time, my guess it has to do with lesser quantity sold, so expense need to be spread out over fewer boats, thus increasing the price.

They had a number of Makos on display recently at the Bass Pro Shops, Orlando. I kinda use the base of my fist to "lightly" pound on the sides. They all, even the big ones, just seemed kind of flimsy; not what you would expect in a 23 or 26 ft boat. I went inside one of the express models. The cabin just seemed way too cramped; like they were just trying to fit too much in a small space. I remember it had one of those "queen" births under the cockpit. The problem was, it was so small I wasn't even sure it was meant to be a birth. I wouldn't want to sleep there, too much like an MRI machine...
