Default Blackwood in the Shearwater/Sterling exhibit:

I did not get a chance to talk to a sales guy but was the slick lookin' "Blackwood" in the Shearwater/Sterling exhibit a new boat or just a dressed up Shearwater 24? Pics? Thanks.

I agree. It ain't no fishin' boat. I figure it is for the yachty, Chris-Craft crowd. Still is was cool lookin', thus the reason for my original question.

I'm a Shearwater owner and have been on the Blackwood at 2 different boat shows. It is my 4 yo daughters favorite boat. She just loves all of the seating, which means old Dad doesn't like it. But that's the deal, it's not a hardcore fishing boat, it's a cool cocktail bay/offshore boat that you can definitely catch fish out of.

Edit: Sorry, it is a brand new hull, not a 24. The dressed up 24 is the "25 LTZ".

I had the opportunity to take a blackwood 27 for a test ride yesterday. Twin 300 Verados and 2.5 - 3.5 chop in the ashley river here in charleston sc made for a winner!! Boat is as solid as they come. Attention to detail is superb. 4 people on board and 60 gallons of fuel neted 71.4 mph on gps in the chop. Driest boat I have ever been on, size and height considered. Not one drop of water got us on a 20-25mph windy day. I can honestly say I would not be worried one bit on a four foot day offshore, more than that and any boat is gonna be rough.

Been on the 27 Blackwood twice, it is definately not a silly boat, if you call a custom boat,(in other words have it built to your specs)(as hard core fishing as a Shearwater if you want it that way) silly.
Did one trip of about 75 miles, and also went to Key West for the 1st Day of Lobster Season with 5 guys on it... Fast, reliable, and had a line of people at the Galleon who wanted to take a look at it when we got back to the dock. I dont work for AMS but my next boat will probably be a CUSTOM 27 Blackwood. It is a smaller C.C. than we usually buy but for now it fits want we want to do, cruise, fish, dive, trailer and look great doing it.

saw it at the show, was a little pimpish for my taste. They had a tv in the backrest of the front cooler seat which was ridiculous, and I'm gonna go out on a limb and say both trik88 and ufsm work for shearwater somehow. Trik, you gotta post on a boat other than a blackwood if u want people to take our opinion seriously.

Could not agree more. If it is a great a great hull design then make it into a fishing boat!!!!!!!!!!

as said before you can order to spec, if you don't want a tv then don't check that option. i have never been on a blackwood other than at a show and do not own a shear water. I have been on a shearwater multiple times as the owner put it through the ringer and never once felt unsafe. 30 miles out in 2-4 in a 24ft with eight dive tanks and gear averaging 30-35mph. I could only imagine a 27ft with slightly higher sides (although i would prefer a higher side than the blackwood) would ride pretty sweet.
