Random Quote: Creeps and idiots cannot conceal themselves for long on a fishing trip
Jeff and the guys at the booth were top notch; thanks for taking some time to speak with my Dad and I about your very impressive boats. Hopefully we can sell the old man's rig and pay you guys a visit.
I love their boats, but I am a little surprised at the amount of plastic hatches and hardware on the 27. It still would not keep me from buying one because I think they are one of the classier looking boats out there.
Is the 20 self bailing? I don't seen any scuppers? Just a sump.
This question was asked in the thread from last year's show. Short answer is yes. Here's the answer from the builder:
"hi albury fans and good evening from miami. i can answer the self bailing question for you, they are self bailing. the albury is just a little different because willard albury has been a wooden boat builder for most of his career and the fiberglass version was not a complete departure. in the back of the sump is a garboard drain hole and the bilge pump/float switch is mounted on a floating plate. in fact, up to 2003, the bilge pump was an option. to run the boat in self bailing mode, lift the bilge pump/float switch plate up and out of the sump and set it on the deck to starboard. leave the plug out of the garboard. when the boat is not moving, a few inches of water will be in the sump, below deck level."
Pretty boats, but can you even fish out the back of the 20 or 23?
I have as much room on the stern of my 20' Albury to fish as other comparable sized boats . I fish all the time and have caught everything including Kingfish, Sail, Cobia plenty of Dolphin [mahi] and hooked [but not even got close to bringing along-side] two Marlin. I normally fish with two others and we never have any issues. The forward deck is a great, safe casting platform. In addition during the summer we ususally bring along a portable live well.

Of course you can and very well. I guess you're asking because of the rear seat; the backrest is removable and the seat folds down or can also be removed by pulling two pins. Mine stays out unless it's going to be just a boat ride day with guests. Other than that I'm not sure why you would ask the question.
Maybe Im missing something an open transom with no scupers and only a single bilge pump to pump out the boat????? Also on the 27 a cheap PVC hatch in the splash well???? I think these might look pretty but they are a recipe for disaster

I can't comment on the hatch on the 27' other then to say everything on my 20' Albury is top of the line and the fit/finish is as good as it gets IMO. However I can say that there are very few boat manufacturers who have been building boats for as long as Albury Brothers. And these are not just pleasure/fishing boats. They got their start building working boats [and still do] that would fish the Bahama Banks for days on end. You could probably count on your hand the number of different models they have built and these designs were not CAD created but refined over decades in 'real world' situations and experience. As stated numerous times before, Alburys are very, very dry boats and the splash well, even when backing down on a fish catch 99% of any water.

read this again and it explains the purpose of that little well and the bilge pump.

The history of the brand says otherwise. Don't the Bahamas have storms every once in a while? I can't see 57 years of Bahamians lining up to buy a recipe for disaster. A significant fact that is rarely mentioned is that at drift the Albury turns her beam to the sea like an inboard, she doesn't drift with the transom to the sea like a "normal" outboard. The large splashwell does have scuppers.
