The rates are crazy especially in this economy. This will be my 3rd or 4th year doing the show. I do not care to spend the night on South Beach. I booked Hotel and airfare from NY into Fort Lauderdale for 2 for 4 nights with a stay at a Days Inn 15 miles from the convention center. Hotel $325 Airfare $502 total Cost $827. I will get back $460 in airfare vouchers thanks to Spirit airlines end of the year sale that ended 12/31/08. I have learned over the years paying the excess for South Beach was not worth my while. Too much noise, and people. There is so much to do, at the end of the day I just need a room to sleep. I had to pick-up a rental car which was free thanks to Credit card points. I normally park for $10 and pickup a shuttle to the convention center. Will also squeeze in a day of fishing.
See you at the show ( Have not heard of a THT get together like years past though?)

kingair - 12/29/2008 11:39 PMI tried to add a night at the Doubletree. They said no problem, your rate will now be 400$ a night instead of the 185.00. I said no thanks, I will keep my current dates and rate.
The Admiral likes the beds at the Double Tree, and the warm cookies are not bad. Plus we can drink without having to worry about driving. I paid 185.00 per a night, which is a bargain compared to previous years.
I missed last years because I was in Iraq. Wiley is going to meet for drinks. We met over at the strictly sale area. I just hope it is warm this year.
Can anyone recommend a good restaurant in the area of Holiday Inn port of Miami Steak/Seafood. I'm going down for two days and would like to plan ahead. Thanks Tom
It is list on the miami boat show website who will be there. I think most everyone (who hasn't all ready gone under) will be there. If they are going to 1 boat show this year this is it. I think some of the smaller boatshows is where you might see some companies and dealers electing to go to save money.
Yes I am doing the photos again this year. I may only be able to do two days this year though. My guess is I can only squeeze in about 1400 photos in two days.
Slacker.
We'll wave as we go by enroute back to Port Canaveral on the 14th.
Where's a good place to stay for the show. I know everywhere is expensive for those dates but any hotel ideas. Is it best to stay in southbeach near the convention center or farther away where its cheaper and park and ride in?
IMPO, yes.

Hey Wiley,
You didn't stop by to see us at Lauderdale. We'll be over on Collins at slip 54F (Oceansport Yachts near ramp 20). I'm bringing over a couple of cases of Sands...
I will be going to the show for the first time. Where is a good place to stay? I would like to stay at a marina close by the show. Thanks
Double Tree Biscayne Bay where I am staying), Marriott Biscayne Bay. These two will put literally, on top of all the action and a free shuttle to the convention center.
I'll be coming to the show this year! It is a long trip, but I'm looking forward to it. The airfare was reasonable, but I was amazed at the cost of hotel rooms. Those folks have more than one way to skin a skindiver. The best rates we found were at some "kennel" in Coral Gables.
I'll be looking forward to seeing any of you if there is a get together.
