Default McKee Freedom 28

Has anyone considered rigging the 28 with triple 200's or is this not possible due to the motor well geometry. The light weight 200 etecs would allow triples with only 1260 pounds on the stern vs 1040 for 250 Etecs or also about 12ish with Verados. With the 10 ft beam it would be nice to have the two motors way on the outside. Additionally another question would be can the 28 plane on a single 250 at less than 5000 rpm. The concern is when you have a 100 mile run each way(perpindicular to shore) getting back at 8 knots could take quite a while in a one engine down scenario whereas 25 kts might still be attainable at reasonable rpms with 400 hp.

moving motors to the outside destroys performance. it does increase dock handling, but you dont buy a performance hull and whack off its wheels just to put in the slip easier. as far as performance, the 28 is a 62 or more mph boat with 500 hp so even with 400 it should move well enough, but would be underpowered. as far as trip 200s. i just cannot think of any reason that would make sence. i cannot think of any boat under 31 that would perform at its peak with triples. i guess its fun to dream, but that one is a bit too odd for me. .

btw, with singe 250 (in the event of a failure) you should still see low-30s and make it to the scales in time. (ask force-10 from texas)

The boat will plane on one 250 in light sea conditions and will achieve 25-28 mph. I have 4-blade props, however, and only see a top end speed with a light load of 54mph and with a heavy load about 50 mph.

I think going with triples would be going a little overboard with the 28, but it would be fun to try!!!
