Default Extent of foam up the sides of a McKee 24

I just started using my 24 and am crawling all over for some upgrades and noticed that the sides of the hull do not sound like they are fully foam injected. The sound is noticeably different when you pound on the sides above the floor than what it is when you pound on the hull sides below the floor line or within the fish boxes. Everything below the floor is definitely solid foam.

I am not concerned since the structural bonding is generated below the floor line between the liner and the hull, and the thickness of fiberglass above the floor line for both the liner and hull are thicker than most boats. I was just surprised, because on my 196, the sides were solid above the floor in most areas.

Can anyone tell me if this is the same in their 24.

Thanks

All of the Mckee Craft models are filled from the keel up to the top of the gunnel. The sound difference you hear is from the density difference and amount of foam. When the foam rises up the sides from the bottom its almost in a "free rise state". The foam at the bottom if slightly denser and at greater volume so it will sound different when you pound on the sides.

Above the floor from the outside hull to the liner is approx. 4.5" and below the floor you may have 8-10" betwwen the outside hull to say the inside of the fish box.

Agree. Feel up under the gunnel on top of the insert piece and you will feel a couple areas where they did the foam injection and capped it. Having seen how this works at the factory, I suppose there may be a void or two but it is going to be pretty full of foam.
