Re: 2000 115 HP Johnson Ocean Pro for 17.5' Mckee???
I am guessing that 2000 Johnson was the beginning of BRP days so it should be OK. I would ask a Johnson mechanic and see what they think of it. The 115 v4 was the work horse of Johnson & Evinrudes. Perhaps one of their most reliable V4’s. I had several friends with old 85, 88, 90, 115 & 140 same block and all were great. Personally I had 3 of them, 40, 25 and 120 hp. The 120 was bought new and was sold with the boat after 14 years of trouble free usage. The 40 (mid 70’s model) blow up after 3 years, the 25 was very old (early 60’s) and I sold it running with the boat in early 80’s.
I would get the engine checked out by a marine mechanic if you are serious about buying it. It may cost 100 or 200, IMO well worth the few thousand that you are going to invest in it. A good or excellent report back from your mechanic should give you many years of service for you Mckee.

That would be an incorrect guess. 2001 was the last full model year for OMC ownership. Bombardier acquired the engine manufacturing assets of OMC in late '01 so that included lots of '02 model year engines produced in late '01 as well.
At any rate, back to the original inquiry...the carbureted Johnson and Evinrude V4 engines are pretty simple and reliable engines regardless of year of manufacture. As mentioned above, have the engine checked out by a reputable OMC/Bombardier mechanic and enjoy your new power.

Re: 2000 115 HP Johnson Ocean Pro for 17.5' Mckee???
Well, as luck would have it...the 115 HP Ocean Pro was sold before I could get to it...
Ido not have any power on this boat as of now, the boat was originallyaSouthporter Dual console and I have stripped it to the hull andammounting a used offshoreman CC that I "aquired" from Mckee factoryinFairmont. So I am at square 1 on repowering...now I am contemplatingifI really need the 115HP or not for this hull....I am alsocontemplatingforking out the dough and buying new vs. used....and amleaning towards2 motors: 90HP-Yammie 2S or E-tec
What are thoughts on a 90HP 2stroke w/ this hull??
Myintendeduse is thus: waterways/creeks and some nearshore fishing,skiing(some...maybe, it's been a while and I ain't gettin any younger)allaround Charleston, SC....let me know, thanks,
Re: 2000 115 HP Johnson Ocean Pro for 17.5' Mckee???
deviljohn,
I have a Southporter with a Honda 90. I usually boat alone, or with one other guy, on a river, and performance is OK. Nothing to really write home about--gets the job done.
I can tell the difference when my bud is onboard and can't see this as being enough power for a boat full of people out skiing. But I don't ski anymore anyway--got older and have iffy elbows now.
I don't know if a 90 2-stroke would be better, or a different brand 4-stroke, but I wouldn't mind having more power.
Re: 2000 115 HP Johnson Ocean Pro for 17.5' Mckee???
I have a Yamaha 90 2s on my 16' Cape Fear. It runs 38 on the GPS w/ me alone and 1/2 tank fuel. It is perfect for my boat. I think you would be right on the bottom edge power wise with a 90 2s.
Re: 2000 115 HP Johnson Ocean Pro for 17.5' Mckee???
honda 90 and honda 115 are the same motor cept the 90 is tuned down so they waight the same and have diffrent power
