Default mckee craft 1984 hammerhead gas question

Hey guys,my buddy at the dock has this boat, and has a problem with getting gas to his outboard,
he has changed his water seperator, and thinks maybe the problems solved...However someone told him there
is a check valve coming off the gastank to the water seperator....Do you know if this is true?will he be able to see this valve if he pulls the floor panel near the transom?(the one with the fish box)...does this check valve go bad?He wanted me to ask ya'll.since he is not a computer guy...any help with this will be greatly taken !Thanks

Default RE: mckee craft 1984 hammerhead gas question

Ahhh, I have just worked through this problem with my Hammerhead 220 walkthrougy, a 1991. I found that when I tried to fill the tank - unless a ran the filler pump at a trickle, one hour to get about 60 GA in, it would backflow out the filler and the vent.

I had replaced the fuel lines by taking up the floor fuel cover, you must do this. I found the gas line bubbled and dissentigrating. Could have been a catastrophe if I had not caught it and replaced them. But still, the gas backflowed. Then, I found the the fuel vent hose, in the gunnel, just below the vent on the side of the hull was crimped where it comes out of the tunnel/tube in the side of the hull. All I did was pull a little of the slack hose up to elivieate the crimp and I can now fuel fast as I want without backflow.

Hope this helps.

he hasn't had a problem with filling the tank.yet..Its getting the gas to the motor ie threw the filter,
He really wants to know where the gas leaves the tank,is there a valve there(under the floorby the tank)
Maybe a check valve that can go bad? and not allow much gas to travel to motor.

Agree, the bulbs don't last long.

And by the way, I have had the floor up on mine that covers the tank. The pickups are toward the rear-there may even be an inspection cover there. No valve, just a brass 90 degree fitting that screws into the tank and has a nipple for the hose to be double radiator clamped to it. CAUTION. To my surprise and horror, I found my gas lines to be deteriorating, bubbles in the rubber, etc., they all need to be checked every year and replaced every 5 or so. Particularly if the existing ones are not ethenol resistent.
