Hey Folks,
Been lurking for quite awhile with no real reason to post. I use the search button , and am able to find answers to most of the questions that I have.
I was in the market for a used CC in the 23-25 foot range to do some offshore fishing .Have been looking for a few months and had narrowed my search to a few particular brands and models.
During my search , I came across a used 24 Mckee Freedom that seemed to fit what I was looking for and around my price. As I am located in Southern NJ , I contacted Hudsons Outboard in Salisbury MA by phone , with questions about the used Mckee.
I let them know I was interested , and would like a few questions answered. I wanted to know if the engines were still under warranty , which electronics were on the boat , and how much it would cost to ship it to NJ.
I was more than willing to make the 5 hour drive to see the boat in person , if the boat was all it seemed to be.
The first salesman took my info and assured my he would get back to me.
After two days , I contacted them again , and again was told they would get back to me.
After another two days , I made my final attemp to get some information and again was told that someone would be in touch that day.
I have since moved on another boat , but feel that the seller of this Mckee should know how poorly his boat is being represented.
As everyone can see , this is my first post. Im sure someone will say I have it in for Hudsons Outboard , or some other nonsense.
If you own or know the owner of this boat , call , or have a friend call acting as an interested party.
Maybe Hudsons was having a really bad week. And I cant say they cost the owner a sale. But I can say , I lost interest and moved on because of their lack of interest.
FYI , 24 Mckee Freedom $49.9K
Not sure about warranty , electronics or delivery!
that price would be a give-a-way deal. are you sure they werent dont a bait n switch thing? for that price i dare say you could barely sell a 24 with a single, no t top and no trailer.
hmmm....mctrout, um, is your boat for sale?
on the word of mckees for sale.....
ours will be on the market in 3 days! im replacing a couple of pumps now, and e'rude is replacing a part on the mid section due to some paint flaking. hmm, ive gotta have the wheels polished and work on a trailer light, i think thats about it. all the gear stays with it--i guess you call that 'turn key?'. it'll be ready to drop in the water and go fishing.
we've had a couple of folks thru this last year tell us they wanted first shot at it, and i'll send out a couple of those emails on monday. but by the end of the week, i'll be putting it on here, our local forum and in the 'trader magazine. we're not 'making money' on the deal, and the better our local dealer is with our new boat, the better we'll be to the buyer of our current boat.
thats a webtypo. the 23TE is still being produced. i have gotten on to them twice in the past about 'forgetting' to keep the 23TE on the site. they have been changing providers and webmasters and working on some (needed) updates, and it was ommitted again. i sent 'em an email about it.
(but it they quit with the 23TE, i guess we'll be up for rent! wylie? fabbro? ya out there?)
I will probably be in the area tomorrow and can look in to it, if you want.
I'm pretty sure that I know which boat it is, and it is owned by a guy who used to frequent THT and purchased the 24 new from Millway Marina on Cape Cod. I haven't spoken with him in a while, but I know his cousin real well and I know he just purchased a new home and maybe he is getting out of boating.
If anyone is interested, PM or email me and I will get you the seller's contact info.
Hey Guys
Probably should have posted earlier , as I became very frustrated trying to get info on this boat.
I have since moved on another boat and hope to be part of the Regulator family soon.
Should something happen with my current deal , I just may ask someone here to look at this boat for me.
My real reason for posting , was to try to help a fellow boater out.
One bit of information I did get out of Hudsons , was the owner had lowered his price. I would guess its safe to assume someone would lower their price because they believed there was little traffic , and wanted to speed up the sale.
As most know , this is a fantastic price on a great boat. It just makes me wonder how much traffic was diverted away because of a lackluster sales department.
I know the boat as well. I did talk to the owner of the boat. Hudsons is a very good outfit. Call and ask for Chris. I am very surprised they did not call you back. This time of year is the boat show season so who knows.
it was a ridiculous price, now its even lower! the only issue i see from the history and the ads is the 150s. but, some folks want the minimal power, so for some that not an issue.
as far as seating, im no fan of the forward seating, so my opinion is biased. bean bags are a great way to go. fitting two in the bow would be a full bow. we have 2 bags on our boat most of the time (we never use the jump seat, it stays in the garage). they fit well enough in the stern, and could be used in the bow. when actually fishing, they go up on the t-top, but if we just stop to baitfish real quick or something else just for a minute, they can be 'stacked' in the bow ontop of each other/and on top of the forward cooler. this is also a spot where micha likes to set them up and make himself a 'perch' sometimes.
i will say, you wouldnt want to sit in the bags, in the bow, while running in anything but slick conditions. but this would go for the bow seating as well. and i guess thats really common sense for anyone who has ridden center consoles before.
this boat has been for sale for way to long, somebody make them an offer and drive away with the deal of the decade. the price of the hull and options alone is more than they are asking for the whole rig. its like buying the hull and getting the motors and trailer for free. MSRP for that boat rigged with yam 150s was 73,803 back in 2005. add the t-top/outriggers for 5,495 MSRP, and what ever other options and you are at over 80 grand, MSRP prices. this boat is half that price. and half the price of a new 2007, thats for sure.
Now that is a good deal. The large wedge bags are the best IMO. They hold shape a little better and are more narrow to fit in the stern while keeping you off the ground. We use ours on top of the forward deck for some sun (you just have to be careful and not lean too far over the edge, I've been in the water a couple times), and at either side in the stern while running.
The new 22 for sale posted a while back with all the decals was also a steal.
