Default Question about renewal

I need to renew my oupv liscense and I have a question, when listing convictions do you list the convictions that were on the original application or just any new
convictions.
thanks

The process has changed since you last applied for your license. You are now required to get a TWIC card. This is simply a background check now done by Homeland security. So since the process has changed I would be sure to list everything so that nothing pops-up causing you any issues. If your convictions occurred prior to your original license being issued you have no reason to be concerned about the Coast Guard now coming back making these an issue. You can also call the Coast Guards help desk at 888-427-5662 if you wish to confirm my reply. You can also go to the MarinersSchool.com website and download the forms and checklist for free.

Default OUPV Renewal

One more thought... If you have 360 on water days of experience since your original license was issued you need to take a physical, if you are not currently enrolled in a drug testing program you will need to take and pass a new one, get your TWIC card, CPR/First Aid is not required with renewal.

If you do not meet the sea time requirement Mariners School offers an online course which upon completion the Coast Guard will accept in lieu of having the 360 days on the water.

I just renewed in April and they required my CPR first aid card. That was at the LA REC. Just wanted to put that out there.

I can assure you that the CPR/First Aid requirement is only in place for original licenses not license renewals.

Must have been a fluke then. It happens. I keep it all current so I do not have to worry about it.

List all convictions old and new can't hold old ones against you I now alot of

captains who every time they renew still have to list convictions from 20 years ago.

Default Convictions

The TWIC card has addressed this issue.

I just renewed.
Mailed the application on April 8th and got my new license yesterday 4/23.
I got an email every time my application cleared a step. It was very effecient.
The key is make sure your application is complete, and this is easier said than done.
on the USCG website they have "checklists" for renewing, only problem is they didnt have one for my 200T NC license. So I called the National center in Virginia and ask what was needed, and I was given false information.
Specifically the person i talked to said I had to submit a recent drug test and that proof of enrollment in a drug test program for 60 of the last 185 days was NOT acceptable. This is wrong, I submitted a letter from my drug test administrator, and it was accepted.
I found that the best resource for info was to call your local REC and ask questions. All applications get mailed to the local REC and it is their job to verify they are complete, so they are the best source of info. Finding the phone # for your local REC is not easy though since on the USCG website the # they list for the local place is actually the National office. I just calle the NMC and asked for the local REC # and they gave it to me, reluctantly.
I was not required to submit my CPR info since I am a renewal.

RE: convictions
I listed and gave statments about the convictions I had before my original license, just like I did for my original issue. Reading the application instructions it is not clear whether this is required or not, so I did it just to be safe. I later earned that you do not need to list any convictiosn that you listed on prior applications.

Can you renew by mail now? Last renewal for mine required a personal trip to Charleston CG base.
