Default Mariners School is now USCG Approved to offer Captain's License Courses Online!

Princeton, NJ. - Mariners School is proud to introduce Mariners Learning System™ a series of on-line Captains License training programs approved by the United States Coast Guard.

This is a one of a kind training system that was based on Mariners School original Coast Guard approved classroom courses. Students who successfully complete the course will be awarded a certificate that will be accepted in lieu of the standard Coast Guard examination!

The original concept was to bring the classroom to you. Whether you choose to study in your home, office, or while traveling as long as you have access to the internet and your computer we are there to help you learn 24/7.

Over the years Mariners School has trained more than 25,000 students to get their Captains License. Our clients currently are enjoying a 98.7% pass rate with our Coast Guard Approved Licensing programs. We enjoy this high level of success because our course curriculum is based on teaching understanding not memorization.

When you complete one of our Coast Guard Approved courses you will walk away with a wealth of knowledge that will change your boating experience. No matter how many years you have been on the water…

Mariners School Providing knowledge and know-how!

Just curious, how is the charting portion of the test handled?

The exams are not given online. Your practice exams are online. You have to go to a Mariners School location for the exam.
Here is a section from their site regarding the testing.

"5.0 Testing

Once the student completes the four Module Exams they make an appointment to take their final exam with Mariners School. No testing at the Coast Guard Regional Exam Centers. The grading standards are:

Exam Modules Number of Questions Minimum Score Required Number of Questions a student can get wrong and still pass

Rules of the Road 30 90% 3 wrong
Plotting 10 70% 3 wrong
Navigation General 20 70% 6 wrong
Deck General 60 70% 18 wrong

The online program went through a thorough 5 month course review with the Coast Guard in Washington, DC... A person seeking their license can take the program on line in the comfort of their own home to learn and gain the required knowledge... However, when you test you must take a proctored exam which also requires the candidate to provide a form of approved identification... To ensure the person applying for the license is actually taking the test... No different then if you went to a Coast Guard Regional Exam Center...

The tests are also closely reviewed and are required to meet the Coast Guards requirement of being similar in scope and degree of difficulty to their own...

In the old days you were required to study at home with little or no guidance... It was not unusual for a license candidate to take a year or more of studying various topics that were most likely not on their final exam nor would this information make them safer on the water... The cost of study material was nearly $1000.00 and many of the publications required to study for the test were not being published any longer...

Many professionals earn their college degree online... This is a perfectly acceptable process in the business world... Many men and women currently hold a college degree without ever setting foot on a college campus... Has this eroded the educational process...

The sea service and other requirements are still in place... Cheating during a proctored test whether it is given by the Coast Guard or Mariners School will result in the same actions taken against that individual... The testing room and testing proctor must meet the Coast Guards requirements...

The plotting element is exactly the same and I can not speak for other schools, however, Mariners School reviews all plotting work sheets and ensures they correspond to the answers provided... The client cannot use scientific calculators and is required to take a closed book test...

By approving this process the Coast Guard can closely monitor and control the minimum information a licensed Captain would be required to learn during the process...

In fact Mariners School goes through an extensive Coast Guard audit each and every year.... Any major discrepancies will result in Mariners School loosing its Coast Guard Approval... If this were to occur this would literally be a loss of millions of dollars invested in my company and possibly me spending time in a Federal Prison...

Our online courses are currently enjoying a 98.7% success rate... As the owner of Mariners School the most important thing to me about our success rate is that my instructors never see their classes final exam... We currently use 18 different tests which are re-written and approved by the Coast Guard every year... The test for any particular class is randomly selected on the day of the test...

Until you experience a full grown man break down in tears or picking you up in a bear hug that will take your breath away after being informed that he has now passed the testing portion of the licensing process... You will never understand the total satisfaction I get from doing what I do as a professional or the pride I take in Mariners School...

Mariners School is a professional organization that meets the highest standards of both the Coast Guard and self imposed standards... The instructors that work for my organization also are all required to be Coast Guard Licensed Masters... They must not only meet the requirements of the Coast Guard but also participate in a training program with a senior instructor... Once the training is completed the senior instructor must sponsor the new instructor... Each online class they teach is closely monitored and a student evaluation is filled out by each student at the course end...

Question:

If I take the online course (I live in Charlotte, NC) where is the closest location I would be able to sit for the exam?

Does that mean I can take the course online and then travel to those cities to take the test?

You will have to make arrangements with the Mariners School prior to going to a location for the exam.

Also I really like your signature. With your permission, I would like to copy that.

WE earned it! I know that everyone in my class did NOT pass the four part test. Mariners School is not a USCG License Mill,When I'm sworn in I will be a real Captain. Thanks to Mariners School. Very interested in the online course due to my work travel requirements. Approximately how long would the online portion take (I know there will be a range depending on the student, etc...)

Mariners School has had more than 3500 complete our Coast Guard approved online courses in the past year. The average time does vary from person to person. However, it is taking approximately 30 hours for a typical client to complete their OUPV/Six-pack portion of the program.

You can begin with your Six-Pack license, however, with just 20 more questions you can earn your 25 Ton Master License. With this license many more doors can be opened if you plan on using your license professionaly.

Once you have your 25 Ton Master license all you need to do is an additional 180 days on a 5-Gross Ton vessel or larger to upgrade your license to a 50-Ton level and the same process would be true for the 100 Ton Master level license.

Mariners School is currently running a special for the summer which is offering the 25/50/100 Ton Master license online for the same price as what we would normally charge for the Six-Pack. This represents a $325.00 savings.
