For a HH VHF I would go with the Standard Horizon HX370. It includes a NiMH Battery, an alkaline battery tray, and a SOS distress beacon that is visible from a mile away. I think the alkaline battery tray is a huge bonus because you can carry extra batteries. The ICOM radios have trays you can buy extra but it is included with the Standard radios.[*]Standard HX350 [/list]
For a HH GPS that is going to sit in a ditch bag I would look at the Garmin GPS76 or GPSMap 76. Both also require AA batteries like the HX350 above so one size of batteries could work for everything. The 76 will just give you position and speed. The Map 76 will give you this on a map (like a regular chartplotter). When you are drifitng in the ocean a map is not going to do you much good but at least maybe it would give you some piece of mind of where you might be heading (if it's in the right direction!).[*]

For a combo unit the Uniden Mystic is about the only game in town. This takes a LiON battery that is 7.4V and does not accept alkaline batts from what I can tell. If for some reason it gets discharged in your bag you are up the creek so to speak.[*]
