Default RE: Raymarine A65 and DSM25 - Order them Here

I just had a new A65 here at my office for testing. The unit is very impressive. It has a similar screen size to the C70 and similar brightness. The user interface and menus are very similar to the C-Series as well so it is very easy to use. The new Navionics Silver cartography looks very similar to the current Navionics Gold. The unit includes a silver chip with cartography for all the coast so you will not need to buy any more chips. It is limited offshore however, and will not work beyond 150' of depth. The harbor details (such as marina info) is not quite as extensive as the Gold. The unit will accept gold chips if you do venture offshore.

In all I think it fills a nice void in Ray's product line. It should be a good seller for them. Let me know if you have any questions about it.

What is the purpose of this unit? Is it a downgrade from the e series? How does it compare to the c series when it comes to chart redraw? Is it missing radar capabilities?

It is missing radar capabilities. It is their hope it will appeal to would-be C70 buyers that don't need radar. So a complete A65 setup will cost several hundred less than a C70 setup and the only sacrafice will be no radar capabilities. C70 sales have been slow, most likely due to people just spending a little more and going with a C80. Aside from the radar, this unit behaves just like a C70.
