Which Combo - Garmin 5215 w GSD-24 OR Garim 3210 w Furuno 585
Already have the Garmin 3210 with Furuno 582L (600 Watt) and through the hull 1000 Watt B-260 with adapter cable end (Thanks to Gil Travis here on HT). I have the Standard Garmin network module connected to all my Garmin stuff and NEMA connections to the F-582L. All that works and the sounder works pretty good as well but I need some better deep water performance and I want more bottom detail in 100 to 400 ft.
So do I:
Leave well enough alone
Sell the 3210 ($750 to $1000?) and buy the GSM-24 and 5215 ($4000 to $5000).
Or keep the 3210 and get the Furuno 585 as an upgrade ($1600)
The attached picture is the Garmin Cover for a 5215 sitting in place on my Contender 27 - so it looks like it can fit just fine.
I have never been overly impressed with the FCV585. It is certainly nice, but nothing special in my opinion. The GSD24 is one of the best FF modules out right now, and of course you'll need a Garmin display to run it. You might look at another approach which is to get a Simrad unit. Maybe a NSE12 or 2 NSS8's if they will fit.
