Default Airmar B164 re-install

Posted this in the Marine Electronics section but I just order the B164 wrench from BOE and thought that you may have some insight. Thanks!!!

----------

About a year ago I installed this transducer with my Furuno and didn't seat it down just right, and I didn't realize it until it was too late (dried and test run). There is a little bit of a lip on the starboard side. This is the 0-degree model. I lose bottom in relatively shallow water and the bottom appears broken. It works great when I'm going slow or not moving at all.

I installed it according to the directions other than not getting it seated right. I think it may be getting air bubbles over the face of the transducer when I'm going faster than about 15 mph. I seated it down with 4200. Do you think that I am going to have a really hard time getting it out? My boat is a 260 SeaVee and I have good access to the unit. I just ordered the wrench so that I can get it good and tight this time. Any advice on getting the 4200 off or anything else before I take this on?

I think 3M has an agent that will release 4200. You'll have to check their site for that. Why not just use some sort of fairing compound on the bottom of your boat to fill in around the ducer instead of remounting it?

Thanks for the reply, Jim. I started another thread under Marine Electronics and someone else suggested that too. When you say fairing compound, what do you mean? Marine Tex or something similar?

Here are some pix.

That installation ins't too pretty but it actually looks OK from a functionality standpoint. So you say its not working well at higher speeds? ALl I can suggest is to build up a "ramp" in front of th educer with something like marine tex. Maybe start 1.5" in front of the ducer and ramp it up to the ducer lip. No need to do it on the back.

Yeah, it's not pretty because I put 4200 all around trying to fair it in like you suggested. 4200 is kinda tough to spread evenly. It was pretty when I first put it in. Thanks for the input!
