Default Furuno 1150 or 295

Jim,

Looking to purchase a Furuno 295 or 1150. What is the difference between the two, other than the screen size? Are they both digital models? Also, looking for a 1kw transducer with temp. Is there a tranducer that is a 1kw tilted model with temp that would work?

Can you suggest which model on the sounder and transducer would be a great setup?

Thank you,

Joe

The only difference is screen size as far as I know. Perhaps you can call Furuno for a more technical answer. But I am just about certain they are otherwise identical. The B164 is the 1kW tilted thru hull. This is the mid-grade ceramics/performance. For the best performance you can get the SS264 which comes in 2 housings and costs more than twice as much. Figure around $700 for the 164 and about $1600 for the SS264 setup.

That's not the type of answer that are typical of you Jim or what is expected from BOE.

Chris, I am not sure if you are being serious or just messing with me. I can't be expected to know every nuance of every product and I will not make up an answer when a better source of info is available in this case. I did just call Furuno, the only difference is screen size and the resolution, and the 1150 is also a high resolution sounder. So it is a better display and a better processor so you'll see more detail. Furuno did say there are a bunch of minor differences that can be compared on the brochures, but nothing significant. Brochures are available on Furuno's site.

Jim, YES, I was very serious.

The reason that someone would come to you and seek an answer about a marine electronic product is because you are the perceived expert. And this is why customers come to you and BOE.

As the retailer for marine electronics, it is expected that you have a pretty good handle on the products that you sell. And if you don't know the answer, I would expect that you would find the answer before saying "you should just call Furuno and ask them". Heck, I can get that type of response from anybody on eBay but I have, in the past, chosen to purchase my some of my marine electronics from BOE because I generally can get some intelligent and fact-based opinions from you.

If BOE has become so large and too many demands have been placed on you by potential customers and you don't have the time to answer all of the questions posed to you .... maybe you can hire someone to assist you?

If its Lowrance or Garmin where there is a long hold time and it is more convenient to ask me then I understand. When its Furuno and a 1 minute phone call is all it takes thats another thing. I think I nailed the answer pretty accurately when the Furuno rep answered me the exact same way, however, I am not so proud as to send a customer in the right direction to get an even more informed answer. I think people come here to find out what they need to know and to get problems resolved. I don't take my role here as pretending to know everything there is to know about marine electronics. If I know I will answer, if I don't know then I probably know where the answer can be found and direct people there. Unfortunately my role on this website is not something I can hire somebody else to do. And even more unfortunately this site is one of about 8 I visit every night trying to help people out. Oh, and I have a full time job. So if my answer was not lengthy enough I'm sorry. If I am to be held in such high regard that I should know more than factory trained support personnel then somethign is wrong. The OP was looking for a technical answer, I directed him to where he could get it. Again, I'm sorry if I did not do a good job.
