Default Airmar SS264W Transducer

Jim,

Do you have any experience with the Airmar SS264W or the SS246N transducers used with a Raymarine C120W? From the info on the Airmar web site it looks like these are top of the line and expensive! My understanding is that the wide beam 200KHz is more useful for fishing depths less than 300 ft and the narrow beam more useful for greater than 300 ft. Do you agree? Do you think these are worth the premium price over the B164 for an ~30 ft center console?

Thanks.

The wide beam ducer will be great for offshore and coastal trolling. Not so great for getting on top of structure. Like boats ducers are a trade off. The SS264's have higher quality ceramics, more in line with the B260's quality. So the quality of the ss264 is better than the b164 at a huge premium. Are they for you? What kind of fishing do you typically do? If bottom fishing get the b164 or ss264narrow 200 and ss265/50. If you troll you might really benefit from the ss264 wide 200.
