Random Quote: she said "tie me up and you can do what you want'', so I tied her up, and went fishing.
All I've heard is they should be about $60 cheaper than the equivalent thru-hull. No idea on a shipping date other than "this spring". You know how that goes.

I called today to try and discuss my options for upgrading my fish finder. I live in Alaska, have a 22' hardtop aluminum Weldcraft w/ 225 Honda OB. We do a lot of shrimping in Prince WIlliam Sound and my current Garmin GPSMAP 520 constantly loses the bottom right around 500 - 600 feet, right when I need it to set my pots.
I know I need to upgrade. Currently I am slightly leaning towards the Furuno FCV620. Do you think I need a 1KW transducer to get down to 1000' consistently? Or will a better 600W unit with the standard 500 W Furuno transducer do the trick? Should I wait for the new TM260 1KW unit from Airmar or is there another 1000W transducer option?
I currently have a standard transom mount. Will a good high power TM unit and finder do what I need or should I spend the money for a SS thru hull unit?
And finally, if I spend approximately $1600 for something like the FCV620 and a 1000W transducer, is there another 1000W unit that I shouldl ook at to upgrade the whole electronics package, GPS, sonar, mapping?
Nozzlehog from Alaska again. Here is a more specific compare and contrast question from your BOE website:
Furuno GP1850WF 7GPS/WAAS Chart Plotter Fishfinder
BOE Price $1569

BOE Price:$521.63
Est. total $2090
or
Furuno FCV620
BOE Price $725
paired with a 1000W transducer Part #: 525TID-TMD
BOE Price:$521.63
Est total $ 1246
or
Furuno FCV620
BOE Price $725

BOE Price:$104.91
Est total $830
In water deeper than 900' you will be best served with a 1kW FF and a 1kW ducer. Any 600W units are going to be at their limits at those depths. The narrower cone on the 1kW ducer matched to the 600W FCV-620 would get you deeper, but is still not ideal. Spend a little more and get a Furuno FCV-585 and a 1kW ducer, then use your garmin unit for GPS only.

I just ordered the FCV-585 as recommended, I will do the install while waiting on the transducer. Can you bump Airmar and see if they have anything more exact on the ship date for the TM260?
I was able to figure out the arrangement so I will be keeping the Furuno FCV585. It is what I wanted and need to get deep in Alaskan waters. Next year I will upgrade to a Garmin 208 or 5208 for my GPS.
So - you said Airmar was getting close on shipping the TM20? I am ready to plunk down the $$$ when they do!
