Default AP recommendation

Hi guys.
I want to upgrade the AP on my boat and I want to narrow down the options. My boat is a 26ft Blackman express with a tower, straight shaft Yanmar diesel, 15 degree at transom, runs 18 kts at cruise. I want to have full control on the tower. The boat is 1987 vintage and has Hynautic pressurized three hose steering. The current AP is a Benmar Coursesetter 21R which works very well, but only one station. This unit does not use rudder feedback. I looked at the TR1, but too much coin. I'm considering the Simrad AP16, Furuno, and Ray Marine. One other thing. The steering ram is a Hynautic K19, unbalanced ram. I have put a kit in it once and it hold pressure, but now would be a good time to replace it. I would need a similer ram, any ideas on this would be appreciated. I would like to install myself. I'm pretty handy with tools. Is the warranty affected if it is not professionally installed.
Thanks. Bob

Warranty is not affected by who installs it. Raymarine is the most flexible with components so you could easily incorporate a raymarine setup, and adding a second station is simple. The inexpensive S1000 unit would also likely work just fine on your boat. I would recommend calling raymarine to get a recommendation, tell them exactly what you have and they can tell you the part numbers you need. I would be happy to provide those parts.

Jim.
Thanks for the reply. The ram I have is 9 cu-in. Could the S1000 use a Type 1 drive unit? I guess I will follow up with Ray Marine.

No, the S1000 will only use its own pump.
