I'm looking to replace a VHF radio and a nonfuntioning boat air horn unit.

I see some mid priced VHF radios listing fog horn and PA functions and I understand that usage. Is there a radio that also has a boat horn (can be used as a normal boat air horn) function and is it USCG approved to be used in such a fashion.

Not that I know of. You might get a "horn-like" function but i don't think it will serve the uscg requirement to have a horn. You could just keep a portable one in the drawer for that requirement. In all honesty I do not know the answer to this. The fog "horn" functions are legit, so why not just the "horn" function? Might be OK. Perhaps give the experts at Icom or Standard Horizon a call about this. Both have phone numbers righ on their site.
