Could someone tell me if you need to get the black box multi-function processor for a navnet 3d radar/chartplotter system? What exactly is the black box multi-function processor for?

You do not need the BB processor. Basically Navnet 3D comes in 3 models. 8", 12", and Black Box. The Black Box style is just the "brains" and requires that you buy a separate monitor. The 8" and 12" models are completely stand-alone, they include all the brains and the monitor in one unit.
