Lowrance Red vs Blue NMEA2000 Networks Last year Lowrance came out with all kinds of neat products using NMEA2000 (N2K). These produicts all use the n2k standards except for the connector, since the industry had not yet agreed on a standard connector Lowrance launched their own. The Lowrance connector has a blue ring and is proprietary to Lowrance.
In the meantime the industry agreed on the "Micro-C" connector. Many companies, such as Maretron, that offer n2k components already use the micro-c connector. This year (2007) Lowrance switched all their units over to the Micro-C connector. These are indicated by red rings on the connectors.
It took Lowrance until January 2007 to launch many of their 2006 nmea2000 compnents with blue connectors. The same will likely hold true for the 2007 components with red connectors, they make take many more months to hit the market. We have been compiling components and know-how to convert any of the blue network components to the red network displays. This is done with adapters, connectors, and cables. It will cost extra to convert a blue component to work on a red network, but it will get your system working to its fullest for this season. I hope to put a section on our website to assist with this, but in the meantime just leave a note when checking out at our online store to have one of us contact you about converting your network. |
