As many of you already know, BOE Marine is now the authorized Black Lab Marine dealer of high performance plate alloy boats in the Chesapeake Bay area. http://www.boats.com/sites/yachtsbyowner/newBoats
In order to showcase these unique plate alloy boats, BOE is having a Black Lab V23HTW custom built by Jay Perrotta, that will be used to promote the brand in our area. This particular boat will have the all new "Supertop" option recently introduced by Black Lab Marine. http://blacklabmarine.com/newsupnewad1.html
The new console and top is now 48" wide (versus 36"), and the helm area incorporates a step-in head for a porta-potti, or for additional storage.
Other options that will be incorporated in the BOE boat include a Suzuki DF 250 outboard motor with Suzuki digital gauges, a pair of Group 31 AGM batteries and HD battery switch, radar arch on the t-top, raw water washdown, tuna door in the transom, trim tabs, 'back-to-back seat box' upgrade, low-rise bowrail, and t-top mounted outriggers.
Since the boat has not been built yet, this might be a good opportunity to ask readers of this forum what options you would suggest for this build.
Since this particular boat is being built with the mid-Atlantic recreational fisherman in mind, what would you put on this rig if it were yours?
Once work begins on the BOE demo boat, we hope to add actual build photos to this thread to show how these unique plate alloy boats are built, and especially how the BOE boat was fabricated. As Jay sends the photos to us, we will include them here in this thread.
In the mean time... here are some photos from a similar model V23HTW to give you an idea of how our boat will look.
if you expect me to buy the demo model, you will want to make sure it has top mount out riggers. afterall, this boat will be one i keep on a trailer to fish all over creation

They will be.
Jim can verify, but I believe they will be TopGun's...
Oh you're going to buy it huh. . Originally planned on Top Guns since we are a Rupp dealer, but I think Lee Sidewinders will be a better choice so I plan to go with them.

Cant go wrong with Lee's or Rupp... (I just ordered a set of Lee's for my father from you Jim) Seriously, if my family boats less with me this year due to kid activities, I could see myself in one. I would also prefer a non-powder coated console (All silver please) Another must is make sure it has pleanty of pole holders all the way around the boat for chumming and trolling planer boards (since you are on the bay)
What about electronics and are there Live Well options. I am cool with portable livewells but if you could get a "molded" live well it may be worth considering. I suggest sticking with Garmin for a plotter since I am familiar with them. A seperate fishfinder would be nice if there was a seperate unit like a Furuno 585
Actually, a 30 gallon livewell is an option and it is one of the few items that is not alloy.
It is a 30 Gallon, oval fiberglass livewell that fits behind the leaning post and the walkaround cabin.
Of course, if you're looking for something different, Black Lab is ready to customize their boats to the owners specifications, so anything you would like is possible on a time and materials basis. Simply let us know what you want, and we can fabricate it to your specifications.
Ahhh a portable live well would work better for me as I wouldnt want to sacrifice the forward/rear seating for days I would love bait.. When is your demo estimated to be at BOE? I am dying to test ride one..
TOTALLY BAD AZZ.......but if Jay had a secret console version in mind, he could have layed it on me when I ordered mine in July!
I would have gone for that console in a freakin NY minute!
Less the hard-top, and the seating....just a leaning post instead.
Looks more modern, even though I like the classics too. Not that I do not like my boat, I love it.
I have a storage box in front of my console, but I certainly can't get inside it!
In the CHARTER BIZ.....a console with that kind of storage, and female friendly "piss station" would have been the cats butt, for me.
Dealers are one thing. But the unbelievable "press coverage" these Fine boats get from actual owners here on this web site and others, is worth it's weight in a New house, I think.
The only thing that could make that boat a lot better is being a 26 footer, with a Honda! (in the true THT spirit of outboard discussions), of course.
I feel these boats don't need a bow rail at all, and feel it's astetic only. I go in some nasty waters and never had the need yet, be it I have a 5 year old aboard or an 80 year old. The freeboard is great, and the feeling of safety is all around you. I've never had a single person say they felt un-comfortable or scared.
Please make mention to them at the factory, to NOT spray the "protective aluminum spray" that is applied all over the boat, on the Non-Skid Flooring!!!!!!! For if they do, and you EVER spill one ounce of fuel on the floor, the gas will eat it up and leave a discoloration on the non-skid flooring coat. Because gas eats that up like wall paper remover, and then ya have a brand new floor with a spot that is discolored.
I don't fish in that area, but I FISH! And can't imagine fishing in anyother boat....and if I do, it's because I'm giving mine a well deserved rest.
Took Delivery Oct 19th - 0 hours
Today Jan 15, I turned - 99 hrs.
I don't run offshore and I do not troll, I anchor-up, always.
Start Prepping now, for all the wacko questions!
And Yes, it was 80 degree's here today....go figure.
We are not doing the kicker bracket, it can easily be added anytime along with welded on spray rails. Because of the design of the chine on this boat there practically is a spray rail so I don't think there is any need for anything additional.

I've never seen a boat that the wind won't blow water up in..in less you the cabin.
here's closer look at the side where it meets the bottom, That is the spray rail and goes all the way to the bow. It's built in.
I don't know if you have mentioned it....but if you do not have a ladder on your trailer (as I do) these boats are tough to get in when on the trailer.
If I could I would now have had them put one of those ladders on the swim platform. According to what I seen, they weld the attachment bracket to the swim platform for the ladder to lock into.
It's a nice addition.
Here's that spray rail that if you look at the Boe boat likeness you'll see it runs all the way to the bow.
I am excited to check it out once you get it Jim! I have never been on one therefore dont even know if spray rails need to be considered. I love the large console and seating for 4 out of the weather when running. Of course the head in a console is a must being I have a wife and 2 daughters (My son and I are ok with a Home Depot bucket )
Up here in the NE we have some cold spring & fall fishing seasons. This is especially true when the kids want to fish with you. I'm looking at doing an enclosure for my 23HT like shown below.
It would be a great factory option if Pacific offered something like offered on this Everglades. This looks like the ultimate cold weather enclosure!!
AT, Here is a wider shot of that 'glades you were referring to that was taken at the '05 Annapolis Boat Show.
Actually, Jay does have a full enclosure that he offers, and he can do almost anything that a customer wants.
Notice the similarities...
The "Supertop" that we are getting on our boat could easilly be closed a bit with the addition of some canvas...
I think Jim has some ideas about adding some canvas to our boat to extend our season, but we want to use it for awhile in our particular conditions before deciding exactly what we want to do.
Yeah, what's nice is in the summer months you can easily remove the Everglades style canvas. It is also a door that can be swung out to act as a spray wing as well, or allow air flow inside. I really like the Everglades idea. It's a full cabin/pilot house when you want it to be. They make it with aluminum frame then form and sew the canvas around the frame. The doors are mounted on very simple hinges. Very functional inexpensive way of doing it. I was thinking aluminum doors on my 23 Pacific until I saw this.
I like the rear facing seat on the one Megabyte first posted over the everglades.. It woud be nice to be able to run with 4 out of the weather or have a good place for the crew to watch lines while trolling!
No in-process build photos yet of our V23HTW, but I was able to get this "cross-section" photo which I thought would be of interest. It shows how the boat is put-together, and why it's so strong.
Enjoy!
Back to the livewell question, I asked to Jay install a portable livewell (and washdown connections) with a with a welded in place through hull fitting in my 26ft Black Lab and I am very happy with it. The only downside is that I have to remove it to check the fuel filter for water and, even more minor issue, the drain/overflow hose blocks one scupper and you need to remove it from the scupper at the end of the fishing day. You can see it on their website under the 26ft boat pictures.
