Default Questions about electronics

I Just bought a 17 foot Seaswirl. Great boat. We tend to experience unannounced fog banks. What do you recommend for this vessel? I would like to be able to navigate in fog or limited horizon circumstances. I am not sure what exactly I am looking for. I could certainly use the help.
Thanks

Weeeeeelllllll........it really depends on what else you have on th eboat. If you intend to upgrade your chartplotter anytime soon you might as well get a radar setup that uses a multifunction display. If you don't want to use a multifunction display then I would get the Furuno 1623. The 1623 is a standalone radar that works perfectly for navigation on small boats. It is relatively inexpensive at $1130

Jim,
Thanks. I will take that under advisement. Any ideas on chartplotter/fishfinders? Just remodeled the houuse and radar is not an option right now.

I run a Garmin Plotter/finder combo on my boat and am very happy with it. Garmin Plotters are the nicest and easiest to use of all the brands IMHO. The fishfinder is nice but not as nice as the Raymarine or Furuno (with the nod to furuno )
