I am having problems with my camera. It doesn't take the picture right away, so when I try to take action shots of a fish he is always back in the water before the pic is taken. Does anyone know of a reasonably priced digital camera that takes the picture fast. Can I change the settings of my current camera? Thanks

....digital camera point and shoot lag.....very frustrating when you are ready and the cam is not....you will have to step up to a dslr for instant shutter response......i have the digital rebel by canon and love it....it will do 4 frames per second for as long as you hold down the trigger....great for fast moving action and not wanting to miss a shot.....the rebel can take pics that rivel what the best cams of just a few years ago could do.....it is an unreal tool in the right hands.......highly recommended....they are coming down in price if you can wait a few weeks as the 400d was just announced....here is the hull truth of the camera world....days of reading here to be found.....enjoy.......http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/
Agree with Nodoubt. I have the Canon D 20, which has no lag, but all of the point and shoot I have pruchased have this problem. The problem with the digital Single lense reflexes are that they are expensive, and you have to buy separate lenses (although you can get them with the "kit" lense for about $100 more. Any of the DSLR are far superior cameras to any of the point and shoot. Sony has just come out with a DSLR, some of the used Canon and Nikons are good buys--and are about the price of a point and shoot. I also frequent dpreview. There are other serious photographic sites such as Fred Miranda.com.

The above digital SLR's are great choices if you are OK with spending that much money. If not, buy one of the newer Canon Powershot A series camera: the A620, A540, or A700 are my recommendations. These are fast, and they also have a burst mode which will automatically snap 2.5 frames per second when you hold the button down. Perfect for action shots. Very simple to use too. Get a top quality 2GB SD memory card to go with these cameras.
The one thing you can try on your current camera is to pre-focus by aiming and holding the shutter button down halfway. Press the rest of the way when it's time to shoot and it will take the shot faster.
I got tired of the lag too and just got a Nikon D50 this week. No too sure how keen I am on putting it into a marine enviroment though.

What you are asking is available, but costs in excess of $1000 today.
Your simple point and shoot camera will not do what you want it to do - no way, no how.
Thanks for the responses. I like the digital rebel and the Canon Powershot. The powershots are cheaper, however, I am not in a hurry so I will wait a few weeks and see if the price will come down on the rebel like you said. Thanks again!
If you wantto get good quality action shots, I suggest a DSLR. Shift her into shutter priority and up it to 800+ I often shoot around 1200 when shooting birds in flight.
