Default FF Problems

If I run @ no wake speed or at high speed (on plane) my FF details the bottom great. If I run above no wake speed but not fast enough to plane, I get no signal. When looking at the transom, between the trim tabs, the chines and the location of the outboard (and associated turbulence) , I have limited space to locate the transducer.......any thoughts or ideas to improve performance?? I frequently boat in Barnegat Bay which has some very shallow spots, therefore a FF that works between no wake speed and plane is essential.

It's obious you are getting turbulance over the face of the X-ducer.

I'm not sure there is a real fix, as it's just at a certain speed and it come's back good at higher speed's.

Still the Airmar Tilted element X-ducer is the most popular unit now and will fix the problem I'm sure.

It also get all the ugly off the transom.

Some people will have a hard time drilling a 2 3/8in hole thru the bottom of their boat. I don't have that problem and have my 2nd one to do now.

If your hull has a non-cored running surface, another option is bonding a transducer in the bilge and shooting thru the solid fiberglass. Works surprisingly well in most applications. Search this elec forum and you'll read success stories with shoot thru.

btw - I also run BB, and on the weekends with all the traffic and water stir my furuno momentarily has difficulty maintaining a clean view in shallower areas. ie under the seaside bridge.
