Default Garmin Flush Mount Kit

Hello All,

I would like to know if any of you have had experience flush mounting Garmin units. More specifically a Garmin 240 Blue.
I see they have a flush mount kitGarmin Flush Mount Kit

and am wondering how exactly it is employed.
It appears from the image that this bracket would mount to the dash and the240 Blue would be snapped into place. Is this the case?

Does anyone have pics of a flush mounted Garmin unit ( inside and outside shots if possible) that could shed some light for me?

Does anyone have a diagram or schematic that would show the install process for the flush mount?

Thanks for your time,

Sean

I used the flush mount kit for my Garmin GPSMap 168 which I'm pretty sure is the same for the 240. You cut a hole in the dash for the kit, slip it in , and then clamp it to the dash from behind with the supplied bracket. You then remove a part on the back of the 240 and replace it with a piece that snaps the unit into/out of the flush mount kit. The only thing about this piece is I had to cut two slots on either side of the cover so it would still fit on the unit. I'm not sure, but you could possibly surface mount the kit without cutting the large hole, but you would still need a hole for the power/transducer cords. Hope this helps.

If you do not want the flexibility of being able to remove the display without removing four screws from the back of the helm area, you don't need the kit. Look in your owner's manual and you will see how the existing mount can be unscrewed from the back and then used to hold the display in place. You need to cut holes per the template to accomodate the bulge on the back of the unit and the cables.

Thanks for the tips guys.
I don't have the unit yet, but I should have downloaded the manual from garmin's site before posting.

I flush mounted my GPSmap 180. Easy to do without a kit, just as Saltdog explained above.

here's the view from inside the console

Mpostgate:

Top notch install! I'm actually researching for my Brother in laws boat I think We've decided on bracket mouting the electronics ( FF and Plotter) to the dash only for security reasons. If the boat had a lockable E-box, Flushmounting would be the way to go. We don't want the electronics growing leggs

THanks for the pics.
