Do you convert and then copy to a memory card?

You are about to encounter one of the BIG pitfalls of Raymarine. They don't have a simple way to import numbers. You pretty much have to type them in one at a time. There is a spreadsheet floating around that you might be able to copy numbers into. Not the one you get off the raymarine site as it will not allow copy but the same one someone modified. Try searching on here for it. I used to have a copy but it died with my last computer.

On raymarine's web page you can download Raytech 5.0 for free install your waypoints to a chip and/or compact flash then download to your machine.

ok i had the same problem one month agoFrom Garmin 2010 to my C80)
first i tried transferring them via NMEA ( i have 2000 points so typing is not an option) DID NOT WORK

OK lets use the excel sheet. When u copy from mapsoures to the ray-excel the garmin will put the lat/long in one cell and the ray will only take it in separate cells. DID NOT WORK

Ok lets download the free Raytech 5.0. DID NOT WORK.

OK upgrade to the Raytech Planner a 124 MB program grate tool but it DID NOT WORK

SO JUST START TYPING FRIEND , in one month i only finished 300wp
i will see the link a let u know, for now if anybody can help pleasssssssssss do

I used the gpsbabel and can attest to it being a nightmare. There has to be a better option out there somewhere. Anyone?

Seems like Raymarine wanted the waypoints broken apart. Take a look at the downloadable Excel file you can get from them for entering numbers in. To get numbers into the Raymarine you will have to use NMEA or get your numbers into this Excel sheet and then convert them with the program you get from Raymarine into a Archive.fsh file. Don't bother trying to copy the numbers directly into the spreadsheet because unless they have changed it, it will not load onto the machine when you try. You might ask Raymarine if they have come up with some new way to do it. If you search here and are good with computers, you may find the link or contact to the person that provided a modified Excel sheet to me (I no longer have it). I was able to modify the sheet to finally get the waypoints and name to copy and load into the Raymarine. But I am a computer software developer and have a little bit of computer knowledge. Its not that hard just trying. Raymarine could fix this if they had half a care. You will also have to have a seperate Card for each 900 or so numbers and if you leave the Archive.fsh file on the card and try to save back to it later after you have added new numbers it will duplicate the file and numbers and the new file will have errors when you try to load it back. This is a major example of a POOR system by raymarine and they should have fixed it by now. You will have much better luck with Garmin and Lowrance. Raymarine is the worst I have ever used for waypoint transfer and management. I really wouldn't even consider that they have it other than as a tiny afterthought.

Oh, I complained about it many times over a year ago to Raymarine. Doesn't seem they are too concerned about making it any easier for people to actual PUT numbers into their machines or manage number for that matter. My next machine will be a Garmin (3000 waypoints and you can load them straight in with a computer connection. Lowrance is even easier and if they up the maximum waypoints you can store I will go with Lowrance. With Lowrance you can have any file name and as many files as you want on a tiny, inexpensive chip. You can load the numbers from a text file that anyone can create and it works. When you save back to the chip it also works.

I notice in another post someone saying the free raymarine planner software makes it doable. I will play with it and see if that is a way to do it now.

EasyGPS is free and will do 100 at a time. I use it once a month. Try it out. Garmin via NMEA to computer, Computer via NMEA to Raymarine.

It looks like the RayPlanner will allow a comma delimited import. That might be your best best.

the problem with the comma delimited import is that raymarine wants the input to have lat/lon in two columns and garmin's output will have lat/lon in ONE column. There's no easy way around that. That's really the prob. Capt. Mako is talking about (we discussed it over IM).

To seprate the lat longs, a little importing and modifying using Excel would be a quick way. I tried the RayPlanner and it was a great big pain and I never did get it to work. I didnt have a card handy and could not figure out how to get it to work on the computer using a file, also could not get .bsb charts to show on it. Finally gave up as Help was useless. Sometimes I wonder if some manufacturers of fishing stuff actually have a fisherman working for them. Sure seems hard to miss the all import concept of being easy to get numbers into your machine.

if you know of a quick way to combine two separate columns, or separate those columns, then do tell. I don't think it's as easy as it sounds though.

If you learn how to use the function Left$ in excel you can strip unwanted data from the Garmin file. There are other functions that will extract the exact characters to use with Raymarine.
