Garmin 40 Radar - The Hull Truth

I have the Garmin 3010C with Garmin Radar. Went out 1st trip 3 weeks ago and when I turned the unit on, it had a message that said radar spinning up with a countdown and then would not display. I called Garmin tech and they sent me an update chip. Went out again last week and did the same thing after update. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Are you trying to see the radar display on the map or the dedicated radar-only screen?

Just trying to see it period....doesn't show up in just radar or as the overlay.

get some CRC electronics cleaner and clean and replug in all the connectors - if that does not work, start swapping out units with garmin - there is nothing you could have done, it's in the unit(s)...maybe plug something else in the expander at that spot so you can eliminiate that component...check power connections to the dome - when it spins up is when the power surges -

Thanks for the suggestions and I will check all the connections again. Has to be something simple or just a defective unit. I got the 3010 C Bundle Kit but have a Furuno 582 instead of using the Garmin fishfinder/unit.

I have the full 3010C package with the GMR 40 but the Furuno 600L vs. the 528 (did not need the super depth functionality).

That is the normal message, are you pretty familiar with 3010c otherwise? Lots of screens toggle through....did you try adjusting the radar?

Even more fundamentally is your system page showing the GMR40 as an attached device.

You might try the garmin marine updater but I doubt if it will cure the problem but it can't hurt.

I know there was a new patch released in March '06?

If its not a setting, then check the connections as suggested, then call in teh cavalry a local tech then Ship that sucker back.

Like many folks I bought my whole package online (Broken Leg Dave) but I established local installation/service first to avoid just this type of issue.

Thanks for the suggestions. I got the March update installed and the unit shows as an attached device. I am going back down to the boat Friday afternoon and will play with it some more. I have toggled through the various screens and no luck. I don't pretend to know everything about the 3010 yet but have a good idea how to get the basics done. Appreciate your tips and I will let you know.
