Default GPS noise on the radio

I can't get rid of the pulsating noise on my radio. I have Lowrance GPS/Depth finder combo and a Icom Radio on a 23' center console. I have tried every thing I could think of. I thought maybe the distance of the antenna was the problem. I took the radio and antenna off the boat got a second battery hooked up 30' from the boat still had the pulsating noise from the GPS. Sent the lowrence back to them they replaced the unit same problem. Had the Icom replaced no difference. Can anyone help me. Thank You Big Jim

Try replacing the antenna opr reterminating the end that plugs into the radio. You also might try installing a noise filter on the power supply to the radio. You might have to try a few filters before you hit on the right one. I had this problem with my radio and LORAN. I never did get it fully corrected but the filter knocked it down enough to be tolerable.

Are you sure the noise is from the the gps and not the transducer from the depth sounder?

Check and see where the transducer cable is run. Gps will not do that but sounder will.

My Lowrance Global-Map 1000 GPS also "chirped" over my VHF. I had to turn the squelch way up to eliminate it in standby. When receiving it was almost impossible to understand transmissions. My new plotter/sonar doesn't emit any noise that I can hear. Same vhf. It's not your sonar and it's not your imagination. It IS your gps.

The noise could be coming from the depth finder being a combo unit be hard to figure out if that is the case. Thought? If I disconnect the line for the sounder from my unit that my tell me if it is the finder. I guess the best place to get filters is Radio Shack?

Icom radio's are very sensitive to picking up stray noise. You might never fix the problem with out changing something out.

I had the same problem with a Furuno unit and a Icom m59. I had to change the Furuno unit to fix the problem.

I have the same problem with a Garmin GPS and Furuno depth finder. Tried two different radios, batteries, filters (inline and magnetic) and everything else I could think of. The only thing that works is to turn the damn units off and then the reception is crystal clear. Only thing left to try is swapping out the antenna.

Make sure the GPS ground is good. Had a similar problem with my ICOM. I reconnected the ground wire on the GPS and the noise went away.
