Default Looking at a Simrad GO9 XSE Opinions Needed

SIMRAD GO9 XSE Chartplotter/Navigation Display, Navionics+ Chart Card, TotalScan™ transducer, Mid/High 455/800kHz CHIRP, 83/200 kHZ, StructureScan® HD + 3G Broadband Radar

I would like to add Forward Scan down the road. Other than that it looks like a good deal for our needs. Is there anything comparable in the under 2500 price point that we should look at ?

Also take a look at the new Raymarine Axiom

You can get $200 off this package at West Marine right now, part of their spring super sale. So it's $2299. That's one hell of a deal for everything you get.

I bought the GO9 Totalscan package about a month ago, and have only bench tested it but I like it so far. I moved up from the GO7xse which has been fantastic for me. I couldn't find anything else I liked as much in this price range.

If you want forwardscan with this unit. it will occupy your only sonar port and you will not be able to have any other type of fishfinding. You may want to look into an NSS version that gives you more flexibility.

We will match that!

I also wanted forward scan but I don't think it would work well where I am. Barnegat Bay averages about 5' and forward scan has a range of 3x - 5x depth. Realistically that would only give me one-half to two boat lengths of range....

Forwardscan can see 8x your depth. Its great for boats poking around in poorly charted areas maybe looking for an anchorage. It won't give you any meaningful notice at speed. That's not to say that forwardscan is useless, plenty of boaters will find value in what it offers, its just not for everyone.

Good charts(and knowing how to read them) will still be your primary data source to prevent grounding.

I would spend a couple bucks more and get the package with the 4G Radar instead of the 3G. Well worth it in my opinion. Simrad Go9 XSE with Total Scan Ducer and 4G Radar $2699.00. Its what I'm adding to my boat along side my NSS Evo 3 as a second display.

Comparing the GO9 and Axiom now and am thinking that the Simrad package is the way to go at $2299. I can get another 100 off with a rewards perk so thinking this might be a no brainer. Lady at West told me there will be some other package sales upcoming including the 4G package so maybe I should wait.

The GO9 seems to be an easier & friendlier setup to me and may be a better fit for the family. Thanks for pointing out the facts on Forward Scan as well. In Moriches Bay it may not be worth the expense on any system.
Gonna ponder a bit on this today !

Thanks to all,,,,very much appreciated.

Nothing touches the price point of the Go9, especially the 3G radar bundle. If you have any questions prior to ordering just reach out to us.

Reluctantly decided to pass on 3Gtoday. Had a lot of input here and at home on waiting for 4G for a few hundred more. Was ready to pull the trigger but decided to take good advice.
Figure the same GO9 bundle with 4G is gonna Sale Price at 2399 so may as well wait a bit. Think I'll be all in at that price.
Thanks to all for your advice.

I bought the GO9 and 4G package bundle. I think the quality of the radar for the small price difference is worth the upgrade.
Also I plan on networking my GO9 with my head unit so I will have control from the helm also.
Then I am adding engine monitors to really geek it out with info.
