Default Furuno 841 MK2 Radar

A friend is selling this Radar and is asking $1000, this unit is 3 years old and is in excellent condition. Is this a decent radar or should I buy a new 24 mile Furuno 1623 for $1200. The 841 is a 4 KW radar and rated for 36 miles. Any info on this would be appreciated.

What kind of boat are you putting it on? I've got the Furuno 1832 4Kw w/10" display and rarely turn it up past the 6 mile range setting, and once you pass that point the returns are usually very small. The higher ranges are most valuable on a small boat for spotting thunderstorms, and rain.

I have one of these on my boat and it is a God send. the 4 KW gives you excellent reliability at short ranges. And (once it is tuned right) it is very good in tight harbors.
Does wash out a bit in Direct Sunlight however.
(Not a problem at all at night.)
