Call JRC to make sure, But when I installed my JRC 1800 radar/gps the tech said I could cut the cable as short as 1 meter. Just double check..........I didn't cut my cable so I don't remember the exact measurement. They will tell you to get a water tight box and splice in center of cable. I didn't cut mine because too may small wires.

best of luck

I spoke with JRC on the exact same issue with my 1800CP and they told me to cut the cable. No warrantee issues. In fact, the guy walked me through how to splice the individual wires back together. You have 2 options. First, you can use a terminal block mounted in your e-box and attach them that way. Second, the method I chose, was to go to Radio Shack and buy telephone butt connectors. The wires you're splicing are very small, much like phone wires, and the butt splices work very well. HOWEVER, try to stagger the lengths of wire you're splicing so that you don't have a gang of butt joints all together. If you don't, your cable will look like a snake that just ate a gopher. All in all, an easy job, but pay careful attention-you'll be fine. BTW, the JRC tech rep I spoke with was a outstanding-real nice and helpful. Go get 'em...

Mark (Mwitkowski) is correct about JRC allowing owners to cut and splice the cable without issues as long as their tech explains how to do it. I think the minimum length, however, is 3 meters, but check with them to be sure. I've cut Raymarine cables down to 13 ft., as well as letting the local Furuno authorized repair facility shorten a Furuno cable to the same length and never had an issue of any kind.
