Random Quote: why couldnt the little boy see the pirate movie... becuase it was rated ARRRRR!
well it looks as if some discussions by many peopole with garmin tech support has led them to realize the update they put out last week "was built on a friday" as they say in the car business. The new update is ver 4.2 and solves the black mass problem and a few others. It fits on a 16 mb card and is for 3010/3005/3006 units. Kudos to Garmin for a quick turnaround...
My 3006c is mounted flush in my dash. Are you saying I can update it with a card rather than having to connect it to my laptop?
That would be great because it would be difficult to get it out of the dash now. What would I need to do this?
BTW, the last trip (#4?) to Garmin seems to have cured the fogging problem but I am afraid to talk about it yet.
Thanks,
Sea-Cat FL
you need a 32 mb card (get the 64) and the "usb programmer" - this kit should do it but the card will have to be exchanged for a larger one as the new update file is bigger than a 16 mb chip supplied in the kit - call em up...
Marine Updater is the way to go. Put the data card into your plotter and download your current software versions. Stick the card into the usb programmer and hit Marine Updater on your computer. Take the card back to boat and update away.
i have a 3010c and a 3005c networked,do i need to run the update on both units or just the 3010c..
one unit should do it...but if not, do the opther one too - I have seen it work both ways...remember you need a 32 mb chip - if you are doing it that way...
I loaded the update on my 3006c and now it won't recognize the xm module...........arrrrggggg
Me too, same XM problems. Don't like the update at all. It changed all my colors and my spot soundings are giant red globs that are hard to read with 20/20 vision. Checked this morning...no fix/update listed yet.
you can tell this is a bit buggy - my new 3205 is freezing up after 10 min and stops supplying charts to the system - XM was gone at first but now back and most of all, the wait for a tech on the hotline has increased to 30 minutes wait...
i received an update from garmin in the mail today because i was loosing gsd22 and weather service after about an hour of the units being on. i had just bought the 3210 and it was 2.1 version. did the update today and after it heats up same think..have call garmin again..sounds to me its in the 3210 because 3006 works fine on the network..
It may be in the 3210. I have followed all of Glens advice. I updated my 3010 to 4.2 and the XM to 2.7. For me all is working fine. I know this is just what you all wanted to hear. But there is hope, hang in there.
I am really getting discouraged hearing about the problems reported with the Garmin 3210, does anyone have one that has functioned properly for an extended period of time?
it seems pretty clear that garmin butchered this whole thing pretty well. they are growing fast right now, maybe that's why. i think the focus at garmin is shifting away from marine and towards some of the more growth areas w/gps units. but that's just me speculating.
i'm still waiting for the g2 pre-programmed cards to show up at retailers...it was 'any day' starting about a month ago...
