Lowrance vs. Garmin sonar Glen (et al),
I went to Bass Pro Shop today and laid eyes on the Garmin 3010C for the first time. WOW...huge screen. I compared it A:B with a Lowrance 111; Garmin with Blue Chart, Lowrance with the Navionics. I didn't see a lot of difference in the two, but didn't get a lot of time to play with either unit--the place was WALL TO WALL people today.
While I must say that the Lowrance sonar 'display' blows the Garmin away IMO, I didn't really get to learn about any differences in the actual sonar ability of either one. But I am amazed at the features Garmin has engineered into their units. And maybe the GSD-22 might just improve their sonar a bit--though I am certainly not an expert in Garmin sonar at this time and thus don't know how much it *needs* to be improved. In any event I will not be buying either the 3006 or the 3010 until the new sonar module is out, as you suggested. But being as how I have the Blue Charts CD for the area(s) I am interested in, I plan to stick with the 3006/3010 (versus 3210) and just install the maps onto the new unit.
Oh--and I saw the 376C handheld unit with XM Weather. Nice little unit, and the small screen size wasn't as big of a deal with the weather map as I thought it might be. I have a Garmin 178C and an 295 aviation handheld, as well as a couple other Garmin units, and was pleased to see that they have retained the basic control logic throughout their entire line.
