Default Opinions on humming bird gps and radar?

I am in the middle of ordering new electronics for my boat. Here's the deal. I was leaning towards the garmin 7612 for gps and radar. But after reading all these issues I am having second thoughts. I would like to hear everyone's opinion on humming bird units. It seems they have come a very long way and less then half the price of garmin for the same size display a 12". All I'm looking for this unit to do is gps and radar. I will be using furuno for sounder on a separate unit.
How does the Gps work on the humming bird?
Is it good for coastal traveling? as we are headed to the Bahamas this year
Is the radar any good?

Thanks in advance

Humminbird offers the ION series for coastal and offshore boating and fishing. This includes radar and CHIRP sonar. Expensive and I have yet to see a user review after several years of availability. This was an attempt by Humminbird to join the coastal/offshore market but (apparently) has been a complete failure.
And then there is the ONIX series, expensive and very problematic at best. Humminbird has their niche market, which is mainly freshwater bass fisherman.

I would look at the Simrad NSS12 reman's if you want a quality product as well as saving some cash. If you are traveling from Virginia Beach to the Bahamas at minimum you would want the 3G radar if not 4G.
