I just sunk $50 into a user card in order to backup my stored locations. My SH CP175 can't even see the card. I am currently waiting on responses from SH and the dealer that sold me the card. Has anyone out there had any success saving off their data on a SH product?

I think you may have to format the card. Check your user manual. My manual for a cp150 (smaller unit) says: MENU + USER C-CARD + ENTER + FORMAT + ENTER
Manual states that formatting must be done before using card. That should do it.

Thanks Steve for the suggestion, but I've already tried that. When I try to format nothing happens. Once I've "formated" and try to save to it, nothing happens as well. I thinking I've got a bad card or the wrong one. I'm still waiting on my card etailer to get back to me.

User C-cards come in 2 sizes, 128KB and 2MB. The 128KB will not read in your CP175C if the plotter has been upgraded to MAX software (V10.xx or above). If you have a 2MB User C-card, however, it should read in the CP175C regardless of the software.
Check on the front label and see what the sticker indicates, it's usually printed right on there. Otherwise you can look on the back of the User C-card (where the contacts are) for the text 'C-MAP Wide Capacity Memory Card' which would indicate that it's a 2MB.
If you have a 2MB and it's not working, then there's a good chance you may have gotten a faulty C-card, but there are ways around that as well.

Let me know if I can be of any help.
Thanks

Thanks for the response Paul. The card is a 2MB card, at least that's what its labeled as. My CP175 does have the MAX software upgrade but I'm not sure what version.
If there's anything you can you can do to help me wake up this card up I'd really appreciate it.
best,
Jim

Hi!
I just bought a CP175c (works with NT or Max cards) and am having the same problem with user card compatibility. If I buy the 2meg card will it work on my Cmap PC-Planner card reader (May 04, Ver 3.3.2 or will that need upgrading too? Also, will the new card work on my older CP150 black & white plotter? Any advice will be appreciated.
I guess I'll add one more question for Paul to answer..... I have the older user card that my Magellan 6500 used. I know from reading your explanation above that I need to upgrade my card to use it in my new CP175c. Because my older card has all my waypoints and fishing spots, is there a way or maybe a service that I can use to get my data from one card to the other. Thanks
Don

Try asking Jim at BOE, here on THT. Go to his forum under the sponsors on the main page. He definately knows his stuff and is a SH dealer.
BTW, I have bought cards before and it would not work in one camera, but put it in another of the same model and it works! Sometimes the card or the electronic can be quirky, so maybe return the card and put in another one.
PC-Planner. It accepts all forms of User C-cards, and can transfer to other forms as well, and will let you edit your user data a heck of a lot easier than most plotters do.
If PC-Planner doesn't interest you, then contact me direct (pwilson@c-map.com) and maybe we can set something else up...
Well I was checking around the web site trying to find a Max card that match's close to my current NT+ Wide. But like others the web site confused me more than helped. So I called C-map and talk to a very informed gentleman who not only helped find the correct card but introduced me to the Max Wide. Now that's the ticket!!! I can now fish my home waters (Delaware Bay) plus I now have a map that will cover me for when I go down to Hatteras in June. And the best part was it only cost me $10.00 more (with trade-in) after joining the C-map club. Then while speaking with this very informed person, we got around to talking about the User Card. Well he said that they were selling for $40.00, but with my C-map membership I could get a card and the PC Planer for 149.99. I thought.... you know it would be nice to have the ability to plan my trips on the computer in stead of on the boat. So I went for it. (plus, now I have more toys than my neighbor) I will be getting the new Max Wide in the spring, so I'll have to wait till then to give an update on how I like it. Thanks again C-Map for your assistance.
