Better late than never. My mate has one of these units and I saw the side imaging. It does really work. We were along side a reefy edge and it show good detail. It was however hard to understand the trace relative to the bottom but thats only a get use to it thing. It showed ledges under reef quite well once we worked out what we were looking at. The other advantage is the wide beam. We found alot more ground to sound over with the colour traceand with the GPS combo as we marked it the depth was also recorded. The side imaging was only good to about 30m. Hope this helps
