Default Possible to have too much wedge under radar?

I was wondering is it at all possible to have too much (reasonable standards here) wedge under your radar? If so how could you tell? (Loss of return at longe range, too much clutter at short range?)

I know pointing the array right into the T-top would be too much but all things being reasonable here, if a 4 degree wedge gives you a good view of objects in the water at close range would it be at all possible that 6' or 8' could affect your return signal at long range, i.e. pointing down too much?

You'll also start getting more clutter due to picking up the wave tops of the water short range.
