What lights do you have on the Fish finder unit. What type of unit is it. If you go to external devices; do you see the fishfinder and or status of the unit?

Just as Kingair said about the lights. Also check the connection between the dsm unit and the head unit.

What do you mean by lights on the unit and DSM, this is the C-120 it is the combination gps/fishifinder/radar, not real farmiliar with it as we just got the boat in april, I can get around to most of what i need to navigate and such. I removed the chip on the unit and powered it up again and still said no data and the screen is black, no depth no nothing? All the fuses look good and I did not see any loose wireing? any idea;s sorry if I sound dumb, but maybe being a little more specific in laymans terms will help me out.

Thanks Bill

The C120 is pretty much a part of a full system of what you have. For the sounder option, which you have a DSM300 is needed. You need to find a grey box that should have 2-3 cables coming from it. On one side of the dsm unit there are led status lights. If no lights no power, green flashing good to go, amber bad connection between the unit and c120 or other problems with the dsm. The dsm 300 has to have power supplied to it for it to come on.Is there a power switch at the helm that you did not turn on this time?

Hi Swamppro, no the unit is flush mounted so I only have one on swith to boot up the unit with. I will have to check the DSM300 tomorrow and see if I can find it as the boat is at the dock away from our computor.

Thanks You all for your help I will check it out tomorrow and see if I can find what you are telling me. If you have any other idea's please post them and I will check it out tomorrow.

Thanks again,

capt bill

Swampro is right on with his advice, I had the same system and have experienced the same error message many times. In our case the problem was due to a faulty installation. Trace the transducer cable from wherever it was mounted (somewhere on transom typically) and check to see how the cable is being routed up through the boat to the DSM 300.

In my situation the cable was under tension where it came through a transom through a metal through hull fitting and the sharp edge of the metal cut the cable. We were getting an intermittent signal and then finally no signal at all (no DSM data available).

Also as Swampro mentioned the sounder has it own external power unit, check to make sure that the LED light on the front of the DSM 300 is flashing green (good to go) or if orange (no signal available). The cable connections to this unit are twist lock type connections so make sure that the transducer cable going in and the interface cable that goes to the C120 unit itself are both tightly secured.

Good luck. -harry
