Default Garmin 178c quick question

Guys I just got my Garmin in the mail today and have a question. I got the dual frequency transducer, does this read the speed and water temp? It looks like those are separate things I need.

I have a 50/200 transducer for my 178. It gives me the temp. I alwasy use the GPS for speed, so I'm not sure about that.

it will tell you speed but not dead on if it has the paddle wheel on the ducer

other wise the Temp will be correct ...

The dual freq ducer that comes with the 178C does not include speed. It will only tell you temp. The unit will gather speed info from your GPS which is accurate for speed over the ground.

Ok I got it all hooked up and had it out tonight. It has the temp and the GPS has the speed. Man this is an awesome unit thats packed with features. I could barely fish cause all I wanted to do was play with it. We had some nice bass and tons of blues.

How is the sounder/fishfinder on this unit. I own one and don't know if I like the fishfinder part of it.
