Default My VHF might have interference

When my engines are idling or not running my VHF sounds great and transmits a good distance so I'm pretty sure the antennais wired properly. However, when I'm running at cruise speed, the transmissions on my VHF sound very thin, tinny and hard to understand.

Am I picking up some RF from the engines or alternators? How can I check? Is there typically some sort of filter I should add that might be missing?

The engines are 6LP Yanmar 315s. Thanks in advance.

One other possibility is that you are getting feedback into the mike from some sort of ambient noise (e.g. wind or motor). Is there any way you can try a different mike (or a different VHF unit)?

Just a thought,
TED

Ted,

My handheld VHF sounds OK at speed so I don't think it's wind or engine ambient noise. Thanks for suggesting it, though.
