Finally!! What about the BSM-2 update? Isn't that supposed to be coming on the same schedule? Any word on that?

The BSM-2 update should according to what I've heard be available any day.

Thanks. Perhaps now I will stop regretting not buying a Furuno system instead of the NSE (assuming my hardware failures do not recur).

Nope. It's there, but when you're on the Software Download page and click on NSE v4 it takes you to the NSE 12 and 8 product page, with no chance to download anything. If you click on the v3.2 download you can get that, but not the v4.

They are way past the bad joke stage with this update. Probably they got so much grief over the six month delay from when Simrad originally said the functions such as C-Map N cartography and GoFree NMEA data transfer would be made available on NSE that they felt a need to put out the feature list early.

Now I suppose they think this buys them another month or two? It would be interesting to know the real story. Must have been some big glitch in developing the code for this tiny list of features.

Default nse update

This is typical navico strategy, when you get enough people complaining put out a carrot to appease, does not matter if its not real or they don't have a solution , buy time , the idea of an up date has been around for a long time, does this mean that an update is near by, well maybe, and will all the options actually work, maybe, what about previous updates, how many new bugs will this create as has happened in the past, and lets not forget the bsm 2 saga, will it ever work, some time soon hopefully. I understand Arrbor that you are navicos greatest fan, is it that they have the highest margin on sales or that you work for them? Other manufacturers bring out updates that actually work from day 1, fix bugs and don't promiss what they cant deliver. Posts on this forum show plenty of consumer dissatisfaction , isn t time these people got their act together. It really is a poor show. When it comes to hype these people are the experts, not a year goes by with out a new startling innovation it would be great, if not for poor quality control and poor customer service. As the claimed largest manufacturer of recreational marine electronics its simply not good enough.

Of course "tiny" is a relatively term so your idea of tiny may differ from mine. However, on that list I would view only a few as adding important functionality. That would include the FLIR and Fusion Link support and the cartography support. The cartography is just catching up on something that should have been available long ago. Furuno NavNet plotters have supported dynamic tide and current for years. C-Map made the Max-N charts available in May and here it is 6 months later and Navico has not released the NSE software to permit using them. The GoFree support would be important except the limitations of the NSE do not allow for full mirroring and control like the NSO so it is not that dramatic as a new feature.

I don't think much hype is warranted for this upgrade. But then again, it is still in the realm of "vaporware".
