Random Quote: Offshore fishing, like yacht racing, is like standing in a cold shower trying ignite thousand dollar bills.
Airmar recently came out with the B60 thru-hull flush mount tilted element xducer. these come in 2 models: 12 degree and a 20 degree to closely match the various deadrises.
anyone tried these new xducers?
i recently had a rat problem and the damn rat(s) chewed my xducer cable right above the B744v xducer (not enought cable to work with to splice). So i'm considering losing the fairing block and of the B744 and going to this new flush mount xducer. input or comments would be greatly appreciated
The B60 is a great transducer.. I cant keep em more than a few day before there gone. The biggest advantahe is for the shallow water guys who want a thru hull without the fairing.
i myself have the c80 unit with dsm250, raystar 120 and b744v xducer. i called raymarine and they refered me to GEM (NA airmar distr). does raymarine have a part # other than B60 for this item?
i'm considering switching xducers because a rat chewed the cable just above the xducer making splicing impossible. so the concept of a flush mount thru hull that compensated for the deadrise was what i initially looked for but airmar had not yet made thus going to the b744 with fairing to get optimal performance from dsm250. so i now have to replace the entire xducer and cable for about $300 US or i can enlarge the 2" hole to 2 3/8" and install the B60, but i wanted some feedback on the b60 before going for it.
Here's the deal on them. You get a transducer that has a aprox. 6ft lead on it. You tell whoever your buying the cable from what your going to hook it to. They supply you with another cable that connest's to the 6ft cable and has the correct end on it to connect to your FF. Raymarine, Furuno or whatever.
Here's some pix's that I have posted in the past. Where the connection was made from the 6ft cable to the aprox 25 to 30 ft cable, I dabed some dielectric grease on the pin's and screwed it together. I then used heat shrink with glue in it over the connecion. It will be up inside a rigging tube.
There is an arrow on top of the transducer as it's installed. That arrow point's at the keel of the boat. Don't point it foward. This is to position the transducer correctly in the hull.
Bravo warthog5!
perfect pics and thx for the heads up on the 6ft cable and ideas for fool proofing the cable connections!
the unit looks just as i would have imagined it (less the required cable extension).
I have a C80,DSM300 with the B60 transducer, when picking a transducers on the menu there is no option for the B60.. Which do I pick or does my C80 need a software upgrade? Please let me know any advise on this. Thanks in advance

I don't think they are very new - 4 years or so old at least.
That being said, I've got a B60-20 on one of my boats, and it works great (admittedly only tested in up to 80' of water).
