Default under t-top box speaker

has anyone found a high quality small box speaker that can mount under a t-top so the sound is coming straight at you for long runs? I can hear my in gunnel speakers fine when I cruise but it would be nice to run the system at 50% volume and still get good fidelity for the helm with a box speaker pointed at you...

How about speakers mounted in the console under the steering wheel? I have the Pioneers mounted there and it sounds great while running.

Glenn, I sent you back your email with comments. For everybody else, the Infinity Outrigger speakers are a great choice, HOWEVER they are 8 ohm's instead of 4. This means you need to wire them in parrallel to get 4 ohm's and bridge your amp to run in mono. The next speaker sets are the Poly Planar MA800, MA7500 and the MA9060's. Hope that helps

glen, i have poly planer box speakers, the smaller (40 or 50-watters). they're good quality. but in hindsight, i shud have found somewhere to cut holes for conventional oval/round/oblong speakers.

the problem is that they vibrate so much up there on t-top. the thumb screws on the gimbel flange loosen up. lock-tite stuff lasts about two outings, one if it's rough. i contantly have to re-apply.

a solution wud be custom-made gimbel and thumb screws. i had originally thought about this -- welding a custom aluminum flange while having my t-top fabricated. but my t-top guy talked me out of it, predicting i'll eventually move to conventional speakers!

all that sed, i have a 19' CC, and this might not be a problem on yur big ole wellcraft.

I have the polk atrium 45's and they sound great. I picked them up at Circuit City for 140 for the pair. The only problem is they are 8 ohms so you would need an amp for the best sound. I think the speakers passed a mill spec saltwater test or something to that effect. Either way, when I am done washing the boat I take of the grills and wipe away any water because sometimes it accumaltes on the lower speaker portion. I have only had them installed since May but no problems yet. When I first got them I hooked them up to my home stereo and they sounded awesome, especially for rock music as they aren't the bassiest (not sure if that is a word) speakers. The only downside is the 8 ohms which take a lot of power to drive, I have an amp but I am still on the fence weather to install it due to current comsumpstion.
