Default Interfacing a Garmin GPS to Furuno FF...Help needed

Hi...

I'm trying to hookup my Garmin GPSMAP 76 to my Furuno 582L fishfinder. I have the cable for the Furuno but it came with no info whatsoever regarding the hookup. I have been all over the Furuno website with no help and have sent a message to their help desk requesting assistance.

In the meantime, I thought I'd check here and see if someone out there has some insight...

Here's what I know... The Garmin has 4 leads... Red(12V pos) Black (12V neg) White (Data IN) Brown (DATA Out)... The Furuno hase 4 leads...White Yellow, Black, Green...no info as to what goes where!!!

Thanks for any help you may provide....Rodge

What are you doing with the Map 76 if you can afford the 582L? I have my 3010C talking to the Furuno 600L (check the polarity if no data).

I keep the 76 as a back-up, I didn't even no it had an input/output cable other than the USB for the PC.
Good luck, but you might want to look at a more robust solution with a bigger Garmin GPS unit. The Map 76 screen is so small and the refresh so slow as to be nearly useless except to find large target waypoints.

Hi Online...it's a space issue...small boat w/ not much room for electronics...but I'm looking at the GPS276 as an upgrade...

The power data cable for the GPSMAP76 is what you use to interface NEMA data to other units.

Cheers...Rodge

I'll bet I've answered this question 75 times

Garmin Black to ground, and
Garmin Black to Furuno Green and Furuno Black

Connect all three of these wires (Furuno Black, Furuno Green, Garmin Black) to the same grounded point. By Grounded I mean a wire tracing back to the battery's negative terminal, probably through a buss bar of some sort.

Then:

Garmin Brown to Furuno Yellow
Garmin White to Furuno White

Then go to the Furuno's Menu and find the setup for NMEA and set it to the highest version available, probably 2.0

Next go to the Garmin's Setup and find the Communications tab. Click on it and change the data mode from Garmin/Garmin to NMEA-Out/NMEA-In or maybe they are calling it NMEA/NMEA these days.

That should take care of you. You will be able to display Speed Over Ground on the Furuno if you choose but more importantly you will be able to use the Furuno Navigation screens as well as display Speed Through The Water and Water Temperature on your Garmin screen if you choose to.

Thom...Thanks a million!!! I guess you should bill Furuno for you time since they don't seem to want to make this info readily available.

Much appreciated... Rodge

Thom:
Your a wealth of knowledge, perhaps you can help me. I have a Standard Horizon CP150 that I have snapped the wire to the antenna. As an interim solution I would like to connect my Garmin 76 through a NMEA connection to the cp150 to use the chart and larger screen until I replace the unit/antenna. I think I have tried all the wiring connection described in the SH manual, but I still get a check wiring message from the Garmin. What is the correct connection for this combination of units and what are the setting each unit should have to accomplish feeding coordinated from the garmin to the cp150?
Thanks for your assistance.
