Default Navman 4380

Does anyone know about this unit?* It seems to have a lot of features for the price.* It would be mounted my my 18'er, primarily fresh water use, with limited inshore and near shore use planned when time permits.* I see that it has speed reading and NMEA output.* Does it use an internal GPS reciever for this information, or does it also have an input?* The biggest thing that I like the looks of on this unit is the fuel flow capability. *

I'm pretty sure you have to use an input They make a combo unit I think it's a 6600 not positive the fuel is something I wish I had now if the weather will break up here I can get back to work and buy one I had the monochrome 5100 gps on the last boat it was accurate and simple the kids could run the thing better than me

I've already got a GPS that I have tied into my ICOM 402, well, it's not installed yet, but I have tested it and gotten them connected. What would I need to do to send the signal to both the VHF and the navman? can you just use a bus bar for the two NMEA wires?

Hey Trey,

I'm installing my F4500 this weekend so I've been reading over my manual and this probably applies to the 4380. The speed reading would be 'Speed Throught the Water" off of the transducer paddle wheel, it does not have any type of GPS built in. It can also repeat the speed from a GPS with the NEMA connection. The fuel flow is a very nice feature, you do need to pick up the fuel flow transducer ($100?) for that to work.

Hope that helps.

thanks doug, that's exactly what I was wanting to hear, I would hate to think that fuel number accuracy was limited by the accuracy of a paddle wheel.
