hello, i am looking into buying a handheld gps and am looking hard at the lowrance h20. i like the plug and play feature rather than the pc downloads. i fish mostly pa and lake erie/presque isle area. does anybody have this unit and what chips do you have or suggest. i have been looking at the fishing hotspots elite but dont see lake erie eastern basin on the list. any info appreciated. thank you

I have the unit itself and it works greatI. I use the navionics gold, which is probably not too much help to you. But in any case the chip works very good. This unit has 2 processors where most others don't. Which means it locates your satellites faster.

I too have the h20 and like it very much. I use mine for freshwater and saltwater boating/fishing in New England. For freshwater, I like the Navionics fishing hotspots premium chips.

If you want to try using it before you buy, go to the Lowrance website and download the h20 simulator. You can also download the manual. It is identical to the real unit.

thank you for the info. ive spent 3 hours messing around with it. on the simulator it always stations the cursor in oklahoma. i assume this is just for the emulator, and when you turn the real unit on it positions the cursor where you are?

never mind my stupidity. i downloaded and read the owners manual. the emulator will not let me use the find key and will not let me select enter key more than once without moving the emulator. got most of t figured out. just need to get down the sequences. thanks again

When playing with the emulator, you can set your current position and speed (try navigating from OK to anywhere at 1000mph!). It is in the menu somewhere. Once set, you can then practice navigating.

Obviously, it is automatic on the real thing and it knows where you are at once it locks on to the sats.
